I'm on the first page and number 4 for a top keyword, that get about a million plus searches a month. The max visits I get is no more than 50 a day. I guess you have to be the top 2 to see real traffic.

I know, I can see that now. Hopefully I can move up some more.

Now those 60% represent 100% of the top 3

55% again goes to the first
30 % goes to the second
15% goes to the third

THose numbers are old and represent an average which is not applying to every kind of queries.

Exactly! Or if your using google chrome, go to incognito mode and try searching again. Usually more than 70% of the traffic goes to the first 2 places. The rest if left for the other results.

Why does that sound weird? Google does Search Personalization, and has Web History enabled by default, when you're signed into a Google account. Oh and if you're on Google+, and +1 a website, the website will appear on the first page of the term that it targets.

Best bet, get a rank tracking software such as Marketing Samurai, or Rank Tracker.

LOL - what did you think? I was pulling your leg? It is either this or you have checked broad match searches like another member has mentioned. Sometimes, broad match searches can be a huge number while exact search matches for that same term will be 10 a month.

Correct. I'm willing to bet he had broad checked instead of Exact checked in the GKT. I made that common mistake a few times awhile back as well.

i have a site for a big keyword and its at #4 and i get about 70% of the traffic for that keyword because the top 3 site are cr*p!

so if you are at #4 its all about how good the sites above you are!

How are your on-page factors looking? Is your ranking page description too "salesy"? And I'd def check your keyword traffic like previously mentioned above with either MSamurai or SEMRush.

Check your off-page. I've been using a combo of spun/unique, both with tracking URLs, and my uniques are almost double the off-site traffic of the spun.

Yep, always use exact match. Broad match #'s don't mean shit (as your case clearly illustrates).

There is also the other possibility that you have a million BROAD searches but very little exact searches. For example, the keyword "how to the" probably has a million BROAD searches but how many exact people search that? Lesson learned... Only use exact searches in the keyword tool.

Also, Google "seo serp checker" and use the first link to check your position without Google's personalized searches.

Its a common mistake that many of us have made.

Try digging around in your niche for related keywords that get decent monthly searches and expand your site to include them as well.
