Can someone explain speedtest.net?
I always test and it's telling me I get 3mb/s when in fact when I download something from the internet, it's always at 500kb/sec?

Your download speed depends upon three things.

Your connection to the internet
File location
Server connection (on the other side).

You can have a true T3 piped into your house but if you download from someone with 56k, 56k is all you are getting.

I remember when I was in highschool on dial-up, I would always download from someone with at least a T1 or ISDN. You never want to download from someone with the same speed as your chances are good that it will be slower than your max.

100/100mb fiber. Unlimited bandwith. Only $13/month. Patch station in my central closet (dunno why I have it, or what it does, but its there and I connect my interwebz cable from it to my computerz and *vroooom*!) God bless Sweden!

Too bad I'm not in Latvia anymore. We've got the 2nd fastest Internet in the world there, according to speedtest.net - almost 1 Gbps both ways - and yes, it's for normal users, not only the big players, and costs just about $40-$45/month.

thats crazy fast! Dowload me some torrents and send them through skype? lol!
because skype can override the download speed allowed by your ISP and it'd be faster than if you would download the file for yourself from the tracker?
