Can I dominate This Niche/Keyword?

Hi Guys! In need of some suggestions here!

I recently found a nice keyword. It's a buyer keyword and has 8100 exact global searches/month!

The no.1 site, well, it's not really a whole site, it's a page of an authority site! The domain has about 200 blog posts, they are not created intentionally, but were built by real people referring to the site! Though, it's a buyer keyword, but the site isn't selling anything! Just pure information.

Now, it looks like it's a great keyword to dominate! BUT, yeah, it's a big BUT (!), 'cause the no.1 site on Google is a domain with 15 years of age!!!!

I never go after any keyword if it looks like that the keyword can't be beaten! I want the no.1 spot and nothing else. But this keyword and the situation really got me into trouble!

Should I go for it or not? Looking for your advise. Specially, if you have already done this kind of domination, please share. Thanks a million in advance.

The age of the site while impressive isn't everything. Okay, 200 blog posts to beat is going to take some backlinking work. I would say as long as you have an EMD it's a no brainer. Go for it !!

i've got several 10years + .com domains and can tell you that age is not that important as you worry about

age is important when you start up, but later in the competition other things are more important.

2) I would only go for .com domain with 40k+ LOCAL exact searches - other domains i mostly would not consider (you want to have Good natural traffic to make $).

think:
8k searches globaly -> 1k - 4k local searches mothly -> 35 - 133 daily local searches -> 2nd place will give you aprox 10 to 35 natural visitors a day.. how many of them will click on your ads? ... or even worse - buy something (commision junction etc.)?

Its only a page of an authority site, and not the authority sites itself. They wont be even properly optimized for that keyword. Havent you seen sites outranking Wikipedia pages when they are properly optimized ?

Yep I'm thinking the same. It's not enough if you're planning building a site around this one keyword only. There has to be many more in the same niche so you can get first page for all of them. However it would be a good start!

Also OP you haven't mentioned if it's an exact searches / month value or not?

Yes, it's an exact searches/month.

For me, it can be a good keyword. Domain age is important but not that you are thinking as long as you find a EMD for the keyword.
I'd suggest to look for some good keywords within the niche that have EMD available.

To be honest, I am after that kind of keywords but going a little slow! 'Cause I never found a keyword with that stats(40k exact searches/month) without extremely high competition! Currently, I am ranking 4 sites, which are all made for "Product Name" keywords which gets 30k-50k exact searches/month.

The main problem I face when going after these tough keywords is - the no.1 site always have loads of homepage backlinks! Now, that's scary!

I focus all my efforts on 4 phase of link building -

• High PR blog posts
• high PR blog comments
• Forum posts
• Social bookmarks

I never build Web 2.0 properties, nor I do AMR blasts (in the past, I got great result with it though!).
