Let me start out by saying PANDA IS NOT A MYTH (I chose a poor title that is unintentionally misleading people and they are not reading my actual post to get what I meant).

I keep seeing people asking if they should start over with a new website if their website got hit by Panda. NO! You can beat Panda with a little work.

1. If you got slapped by the Panda update, you probably got hit by a duplicate content or low quality content slap (either directly on your website or on a bunch of websites directly linking to your website) but there were quite a few other slaps that took place

2. Your website didn't get some semi-permanent penality, you just lost a $|-|17 load of backlinks overnight because they got deindexed or one of the other new algorithm slaps got you, but you did not get some semi-permanent penalty (which suggests Google won't let you rank again until they unpenalize you)

It may not even be that Google considers your website suddenly less relevant either. It may simply be that Google now sees some other sites as more relevant after the Panda update so the approach might be to simply look at what other sites ranked highly for your keywords are doing differently than you.

Just go out and starting building quality backlinks with unique content and go over your onpage SEO to make sure you are compliant everywere and are providing high quality unique content yourself on every page. Also continue to add fresh new, relevant and unique content, preferablly at least every other day..

If you have any content on your website that does not seem relevant (like a bunch of random ads) take it down immediately.

You'll climb back to the top with a little time on your side.

For those interested here is some great tips for getting over Panda (NOTE THIS IS NOT MY WEBSITE). Matt Cutts himself talks about how to overcome Panda in a video.

Last Update: I have to apologize to everyone as it was made clear to me that I did not come across in this post as I intended. I rewrote some of it to try and clarify what I meant, and I want you to know that if at any point I come across as trying to rub anything in anyones face, that was never my intention. I expected some flak but the backlash was more than I expected and I tried inappropriately to defend my stance. Once again I apologize for that.

Whether I am right or wrong on this post I appreciate everyone's comments as it's great for the community as a whole to have different opinions on things like this. When we are all willing to have an open mind, we all grow.

you obviously haven't heard of authority sites that got blasted with Panda. I'm not saying you can't overcome it and get past it but I think you need to read a little more about all the sites affected. It's not just crap sites with duplicated content Okay? O.k.!

@OP: ummm, your a F**king tard. I have a client with 100% unique content, a quality blog, and never once built backlinks. She was ranking off pure unique and high quality content and got slapped with a 40% traffic loss for months until my firm came on board.

I could list other examples, but it's pointless. In summary: YOUR WRONG!

BTW your ads have a spelling error in them. It's "develop", not "develope".

It's ok if you're a little ignorant, we accept you from WF and hope we can help you detox from cuttscain.

You're so full of shit it's not even funny. Duplicate content? WTF are you talking about? There's more to Panda than duplicate content. Check it out before you spill this crap all over us next time...noob!

This may be a case where the site had a duplicate content penalty and wasn't Panda-ized. Remember that there's more to Google penalties than Panda.

The thing with Panda is that a site can't recover until there's a new Panda refresh. So, all the changes in the world won't matter until there's a new Panda update.

Even a fixing the duplicate content doesn't guarantee you anything. Some sites are collateral damage.

Your "website" may have been unique but you probably had backlinks on pages with duplicate content which is why you lost rankings if it was due to panda. There were other changes too but a significant drop in rankings across the board was largely due to bad backlinks. Including a lot of forum backlinks which lost a ton of juice.

She was ranking for what? Sorry but her rankings weren't for anything good if she had NO backlinks.

This is another example of connecting two things that may or may not have even happened at about the same time but certainly didn't have any relation to one another.

pagerank was also updated at same time as panda - hard to tell which one got you, they also share "bad" sites list

*** panda also checks for bounce rate to serps and serp CTR percentage and reading level of text ***

You are right in one way: it is both a direct penalty and an indirect reducer when it starts spam flagging your backlinks

If you have a site that was hit and you don't know why, PM me. I have yet to be stumped as to why a site was hit.

Lol OP, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Lol OP, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I've only got over 50 websites and 1,000 + keywords ranked on the first page of Google.

Every single one of my websites increased in rank or was not affected at all after the Panda update.

If you want to sell yourself on that go ahead if it makes you feel better lol.

I think now page view per visitor and bounce rate are extremely important.

Here are the numbers on 1 of my sites for 2011 just to back up what I'm saying. Pulled this one at random.

my main site with all unique content and all the backlinks were built with unique content was penalized and it has not recovered yet.

Good for you, you still don't know what you're talking about. Just cuz you're site is doing well you look like an idiot when you generalize and say it's simple when a lot of people with quality sites and quality backlinks have been affected.

Sorry mate, they are the ones that look like idiots because they make assumptions.

And my "site" isn't doing well I have over 50 sites personally and I have more than 35 clients in the last 5 months I've put on page 1. Every single 1 of my clients is on page 1.

There was a Panda slap for people who were doing things they should have been conscious of in the first place (whether they realized it or not).

There is no Panda Penalty.
