this is most probably because indians just have so damn funny accent damn it ... it's not even something close to english language ! if the bank named there served english customers no doubt they made a good move ... I had few weeks ago a call from virgin media some kind of indian gurl with a very funny accent wanted to sell me some crappy new mobile phone ... lol ... I don't say there indian folks aren't speak good english ... is just because your native language is way too different than english ...

from my experience wrost english and german accent is comming from indians , then it's same fun when you listen a chinese speaking italian ... just can't stop having fun about this , I think I asked an chinese on italy like 5-6 times in row same things just to keep him talking he was so funny

I wasn't thinking about starting one just saying that its cheaper. capital one did it,and it sucks for the consumer. Why would ppl from Romania pay for windows,its easier to just torrent it.

exactly lol ... didn't know capital one have their call-center on india btw ... anyway cheap things aren't means always is best solutions for the business . In general cheap labor can bring for the company smaller prices , but if the company cut from the quality just for the prices ... I don't think is good move

The only thing lacking is lowering the tax rate to 9% from 16% to attract American businesses from Ireland and Switzerland.Romania as well as Greece is losing at of money to Bulgaria because of the 10% tax rate there.With some advertising Romania will not only get those businesses back,but get alot from Switzerland and Ireland,which will grow the economy from all the jobs created by small offices. At least 25%(5 million persons out of 20 million) of the population in Romania speaks English,which means there is more English speakers in Romania then Ireland.

I'm from Romania as well. Somebody planned the revolution and now we went from communism, socialism to capitalism. Hello, Mcdonald's, KFC, Fashion TV, Coca-Cola, Cable TV + western diet (which is excellent, by the way! ; - )

We have millions of square acres (I hope i spelled that one right!), but only 50% is used. Can feed 80.000.000 people, if 100% is developed.

1 ha of peanuts makes 20.000 $ / year easily.

A company (S.R.L. = L.L.C.) costs 300$ to create, you pay 3% from the total to the government (if your revenue is under 40.000 euros / year, i think) or 16% (from the revenue - expenses, not from the total).

Basically, an excellent country to invest in!

Roparadise, why Romania though, you seem pretty fixated on it. is It purely for economical gain or do you have some romantic notions about castles, mountains and chicks?

From a purely business standpoint, there are better alternatives (READ: Safer, less red tape, tax exemptions, better business environment) like Brazil, China and some parts of SEA where you simply can get a better return on your investment without exposing yourself to all that risk.

There's money to be made anywhere if you have the right angle. The problem with places like Romania are the people's mindsets and the government's connections to their former communist parties. It's all just very risky -- there's a reason they're not progressing terribly fast.

I spent two years living between Budapest, Hungary and Donetsk, Ukraine. Trust me when I tell you the communist mentality is still there a bit and the governments are a bit corrupt and have some significant ties to their former communist leaders. (I'm not trying to turn this into an anti-communist derail, I support a lot of communism's ideals, I'm just conveying my personal experience -- instability and apathy).

OP, all this time I thought you're from Romania ('till i found this thread). Took me a while to read the whole of it, but as Romanian and a person who can see a pattern in other people's opinions, best words to keep in mind is: most of the negative reports and advices related to this country that business won't work, comes from either people who don't have a clue from a to z what is needed to open and run a business, or from those who failed in a certain category and now they generalize it.

Romania is pretty much full of stupidity (check out cocalari.com), you just have to keep your brains intact and don't follow the rest of the 'sheeps'. Play smart, is the key in Romania. Now find out what 'smart' means.

I know that some movies are filmed in Romania because it's cheaper to film there. Romanian mountains look exactly like eastern USA mountains. The Movie, "Cold Mountain" was filmed in Romania but the setting was western North Carolina in USA.

Regarding investments in Romania, I would say the most lucrative domains would be agriculture and evergreen energy. Unfortunately, they require big investments so these solutions are not applicable to the average investor.
There are too many malls, clubs, supermarkets etc...and none are actually creating and adding value. Same situation in America, the epitome of capitalism and consumerism, especially consumerism. I don't consider importing, or more correctly saying MASS importing, cheap stuff with doubtful quality from Asia, a business. I guess this has a name, and it's name is Walmart.
I personally would go with a IT firm in Romania, which would create value added products/services. Acceptable salaries, relatively easy to find high qualified workforce, big chances to succeed.
Other solution would be bringing alligators and creating an alligator farm, because in Romania are no freakin alligators ) as a reference to Roparadise who is from the bayous of Louisiana, from what I understand. Speaking of bayous, did anyone remember Billy Bayou, played it as a kid with my old NES...

Actually I'm from new Orleans area,but there is farms like 30 minutes away. I'd like to start one overseas,but I'd have to do so much lobbying to get importation of live non native species approved lol.
