Private whois: Google can see your real domain info?

I came across this post while searching around here:

just to add my 2 cents, it's useless to hide from google as they are now a registrar, so they can know who is behind a domain..
btw, it is always good to hide information

The thread's from 2009 but is still relevant today.

My question is, does the fact that Google is now a registrar mean that it can see through private registration and thereby access our real info.

I'm concerned about leaving a footprint if this is the case, but at the same time, I don't want to put fake info on my domains since I want to retain ownership.

hmmmmm this would not be good for me. although i do find it hard to believe that if you buy a domain through namecheap(or someone else) get the whois blocked that google still gets to know who owns it.

Google can't see it.
I forget the exact reasoning but I looked into this only a couple weeks ago because I was worried as well.
I think the reasoning is, basically when you register by proxy, your name is not associated with it at all, proxy is the owner of it. So there's no way google could see that.

Yep, Google or anyone else can't see that. Only YOUR registrar knows who you are.

You may sleep better using a VCC and fake info on the domain registration.

Theoretically different registrars can't see behind each other's whois privacy.

HOWEVER you're better off using fake whois info because:

1) whois protection subscriptions sometimes lapse when you're not expecting them to and then your whois info becomes part of the public whois history for the domain, accessible through tools like domaintools.
2) we have no way of knowing that registrars don't have some backdoor dealings with G or another 3rd party shell corp who is then feeding the whois info to G.
3) there's no good reason to have your real info on a blackhat domain so it's good to take all the anonymity measures you can just out of principle.

Agreed!!! Whois privacy is unreliable at best and sometimes cost money. Fake the registrant in all contact boxes. Never worry about it again.

If it's blackhat, use fake info.

If it's whitehat, use your real info and protect your assets

Well there are a few points making this impossible for google, the domain can be transferred while hidden info, google can't check every 5minutes. The domain might expire and be bought by someone else.

This info changes all the time.

They can't know who's behind the domain if you hide your info, and if they do, it's a violation of your privacy so they aren't allowed to use it against you (unless you make a small mistake and get banned for both reasons).

Google's a big company, why would they risk if someone click jacked 200$ at some point and tried to hide now? If he tried again he'll be banned again, if not, it's not a problem for them.

Why would you care that much? What you've got to hide?

You should be only paying attention to that when trying to build website/blog networks for example.

I also had some doubts about this so I registered a couple domains for my sister, mother and dad
