Biggest Mistake in your IM Career

Not starting when I was younger......as I kind of think things through just a bit too much!
But at least I ill be able to steer my children in the right direction, my mistakes, less of a learning curve for them.
IM can be very hard work, but be smart and it can create a nice lifestyle.

I lost (deindexed, never recovered) ~hundred domains by stupid subdomain misconfiguration and steady 50? per day Adsense + affiliate sales income two years ago. What I had done, was to enable any subdomain you ever write to exist and serve same content than main domain. That caused hundreds of subdomains producing duplicate content and bam. Over night all was gone and since that, everything even walls has been harder :banghead:

I made good money as a writer on freelancer.com, then started outsourcing, payed my coll fees, bought a car, bought a bike.. left it..

Went back to my profession.

IM did not leave me. Though I can make website. Did them earnt less but Then I was a biggner.. made web sites with out learnng.

Been on BHW learning everything but never taking action. I told myself, am here just to learn.. still I say that, I like this forum, this has more intellect than anyone else.

But should have taken action.

Getting bogged down by silly things. I thought money is easy in IM jut like the times I wrote.

Spending on unnecessary things.. I have a whole bunch of domains which sit idle. I know they are good and very profitable if I put some work... But still I dont..

MY BIGGEST MISTAKE TAKNG IM AS A HOBBY... I should have taken t seriously, would have made more than my crappy day job...


SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ACTION... sorry but I AM DRUNK... Damn, I cant live this crappy life but cant jump and take action as my girl is against t...

Let me start:

I invested the money i got through IM into luxury rather than investing it back to earn more money. I got over excited and I ended up spending more time into my purchase (a car in my case) than work which lead to major disasters in my career. Lost a lot of clients and reputation because of that and it took me a very long time to get back in track.

So my biggest mistake was "Investing into luxuries during the wrong time"

My advice to others: If your hard work has paid off which surely will come by surprise, Don't get excited and start spending them. Instead save it and invest it wisely to earn more money. Once you are stable in your business, you can start spending as you wish. I hope this will help some one.

Lack of a plan with a attainable goal with a reasonable time limit. This is something I still fall into.

The plan is a requirement for both small and big projects, anything else is prone to get derailed. And I can tell you from experience that anything that gets derailed will eat huge amounts of time and energy to no good.

The nr.1 reason for having a plan with a start and finish is being able to measure success, or failure. Without the plan there is nothing to measure against.

Well it is easy to say this after the fact. What if you changed the structure of the site and you made $10,000 a month after. You would be looking back thinking, "dam, what if I had never re structured my site I would not be making $10,000 a month".

My biggest mistake was not restarting sooner. I quit in 2007 even though I was making passive income from 2 whitehat blogs. Now, I am desperate to make money and I am trying to rush into things.

I have a few pieces of software (scrapebox, article marketing robot, thebestspinner 3, etc), but not making much money off of them yet (I just grabbed them pretty much).

Despite that, I do carry on, my goal is $50/day.

There's always a ********** (I counted the asterisks - so I know where you mean) It's just having the foresight to spot it amongst all the other crap.

i sold links on the site for a cheap 400$.. was looking for making more money...
at this time many people offered me 5000$ for this site but I did not sold to anyone.

google screwed me that time and site went to 20$/month...
because of low revenue I started other things and made money on them..
i abandoned this site and later it sold for 750$

What was the lesson? To cash in on your investment before G comes and hammers you down?

It's interesting to see how people react to mistakes. Generally I do a lot of research before I take action, to minimise mistakes and maximise efficiency. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and like to now that I'm doing the "best" I can do. Most of the time it turns out that I learn more by just taking action (as long as it doesn't involve a lot of money which if you lose can set you back alot).

As I'm relatively new to IM, but not new to web development etc, it's easy for me to learn the techniques and apply them. I'm just making a plan with the knowledge I'm gaining from this forum. Thanks to all for sharing their experiences.
