There are free VPN's like hotspot shield but all of the ads get annoying.

I am not sure about Proxy services as i haven't used much of it but i have heard from my friends that it is not reliable. Though the better option is go with VPN, as it encrypts your data through a very secure path and will not let anyone to trace you IP, so as no one can trace your IP. It is pretty much clear that you will not be banned or get traced.
