There has been a rash of threads started about the latest adjustments that Google has made when it comes to site ranking and none of them have been positive.
Here is something for you to consider when you see that sort of thing happening.
Your backlinking efforts should be consistent and varied. Don't rely on one type of backlink or one service no matter how good they have been to you or how well they have got your site ranked in the past.
Mix it up!
Use EDU links.
Use Social Bookmarking.
Add Content to your sites on a regular basis.
Links like Angela and Paul's links have value.
Blog Commenting helps.
Assorted high PR profile links should be in the mix.
Hook up with a Directory Submission Service.
Private Blog Network links.
I could go on and on about the variety of backlinking you should be doing... press release sites, backlinks from articles, SB blasts... if there is a type of backlink out there, add that into the mix of how you are backlinking your sites if you want to have good rankings for a long time.
Do you think that Google would devalue every site that has such a huge variety of backlinks and is adding unique content on a regular basis?
Come on, no way!
Every time Google makes a shift in how they evaluate sites in order to rank them we see a bunch of threads about how their sites have dropped.
My sites don't get the "Google punched me in the face" issue when G makes a move because I vary my backlinking, I add content on a regular basis and I do it on a regular, consistent, chaotic basis.
Build your backlinks using every conceivable kind of backlink you can think of and do it regularly and mix it up a bunch and you'll see the Google love instead of the Google fist.
