Flippa is dead

flippa is definitely NOT dead. i can personally vouch for being a regular buyer. i bought 5 sites for a total of $1200 last week. they are all turn key type of sites and have no traffic though very promising in terms of attempting to grow and rank them. im new to flipping but my goal is to learn how to rank and grow them, make them moneymakers, then reflip them for profit. after this round of experimentation, i hope to start building my own sites and flipping them.

i have read all of Meathead's posts and they are hugely inspiring. anyone who says flippa or flipping websites in general is simply ignorant.

Its good you're taking action, but I personally would stay away from those "turn-key" sites you find on Flippa, as most of them don't end up making nearly as much as they claim they will.

With the $1200 you spent, you could have bought a few sites that are already getting traffic and revenue and just improved upon it. By buying a turn-key site, you're not much further than if you bought a domain name for under $10 and put your own content on it.

Not trying to discourage you at all as I do hope the sites you bought work out for you, but I just wanted to let you know that turn-key sites don't always turn out the way the seller promises.

is it still dead?

Was never dead and surely isn't now. Each month we see more Flippa users, more sites being listed, more bids being placed and resultingly more websites being sold. Our clearance rate of 62% remains the best you'll find anywhere.

I'd humbly suggest you look at other factors if your site is not attracting the right buyers - eg does the listing page content and title need improvement? are the sale expectations realistic?

Flippa is far from dead.

I wouldn't buy sites from there, but there's a huge pool
of buyers with fat pockets waiting for a half-decent site
to come along.

You have a good point. I admit that I was a little too trigger happy when I bought these websites since they have yet to make any kind of money. Though it's not the flippa sellers' faults, they did not claim they made any money or had any traffic, which they don't. However, they did lure me in with claims of potential revenue. I regret compulsively buying these sites so I will just try to unload them and get as much of my money back as I can. You live and learn...

Yeah the best way to learn is to take action and learn from experience and mistakes. If I were you, I would list all of the sites you bought in 1 auction so you save money on listing fees and upgrade fees.

You probably won't get as much as you paid for them, but at this point you should just try to salvage as much as you can and use the money to buy some profitable sites that you can improve upon and flip later down the road.

Thank you for the terrific idea. I think I will go ahead and do this and try to resell these sites in bulk. I actually did relist one of the sites already last night and the original seller took notice and is complaining that I'm copying his original listing. I'm not copying it in full but I'm copying some small details here and there.

I'd tell him to stop selling shitty sites and you wouldn't have to try and resell them after realizing it won't make you any money :D

LOL, word on that brother.

Ok so after wrestling with selling these sites and going ahead and moving forward with them, I have decided that I'm going to keep 3 out of the 5 that I had bought. They are actually very good niche keywords and the sites are unique in terms of the theme and content. I'm working very heavily on one of my sites, where I'm having an oDesk guy post 850+ PLR articles related to the niche. The site will mainly focus on pay per lead of the keyword's product. I'm going to go totally NUTS with this site in particular in the form of WP Robot, AMR, ScrapeBox blasts, and probably buy high quality .edu backlinks. This will be my first true experiment. Should I open up a thread that chronicles my journey in getting this site to rank and get traffic?

I'll even go so far as to buy traffic from sources here in BHW to see if these "real human visitors" will do the lead submits and I get paid. I've even had a bit of a "eureka" moment where I could use proxies to do self-submits like 4-5 times a week or something like that just to get some quick cash guaranteed :). YES, I realize it's click fraud, but I'm in it for the experimentation and knowledge.

The only thing I'm waiting for at this point is to get approved for the CPA network so I can start earning money.

Not to piss on your parade, but I don't really foresee that plan working.

First of all, PLR articles, unless you spin them, will probably be flagged as duplicate content to Google. You're probably not the only one who is using them for content, and Google will see yours as the copy since it was posted way after the others.

WP Robot is also going to post a bunch of duplicate content to your site which further makes it look like a spammy site to Google.

Then you want to go "nuts" on a brand new domain with Scrapebox and AMR. Now these are great tools if used correctly, but I wouldn't go blasting a ton of links to your brand new domain with these tools.

Lastly, you want to fraud the CPA companies by filling out your own offers through proxies. I wouldn't call that a "Eureka moment" by any means, lots of other people have thought of it or tried it I'm sure. You may get away with making a few dollars doing this, but they will most likely catch you sooner rather than later. I'm sure they are aware of stuff like this, because if it worked, everyone would be filling out their own CPA offers 5,000 times a day. The couple dollars you would make isn't worth it.

If you really want to make money from the sites you bought, you may want to go back to the chalkboard and write up a new strategy. Hire someone to write unique content for a few dollars per article instead of using the PLR and WP Robot stuff. And don't be overaggressive on the SEO from the beginning. Start out slower and then once the site is a little more aged you can increase the velocity of the links.

Currently, I have a turnley site on flippa.

# of views is lousy.

I think becuase I have not stated the income which fluctuates, one month $0, next month $1500. Nothing is guaranteed.

Any ideas on how to handle this?

Always state the income no matter what it is. People aren't going to take the auction seriously if they don't know how much it makes. Would you buy a car if you didn't even know whether it worked or not?

Howcome there's such a big fluctuation in the income though? I don't see how it can make $0 one month and $1500 the next.

I used to make some good $ on flippa too but as of the past 3 months I just completely stopped, wasn't worth the fees. I've seen it as dead since then.

This is a niche turnkey business. Vistors have searched for keywords that my site is SEO'd for. The business is the middle man between the customer and company doing the work. Depending on the traffic/season/marketing it can be feast or famine at times. Included in the buy now price is the contact information for the company I work with.

All in all, it is a very cheap way to get into the business. No PPC required all organic, the only cost to the owner is monitoring business, sending emails, marketing however they wish.

Will people buy sites on Flippa based on strong site branding? I put a site together last night for the sole purpose of flipping it. Now it is looking decent and I'm debating whether to hold onto it or continue with my experiment. Brand new domain, no traffic yet, but I set up an online footprint across social media sites, made some cool graphics and videos, etc. Should I hold onto it for a little longer and build up the twitter account, etc.? Try and make some sales/revenue first? Or is a good looking brand and content sufficient to pull buyers?

I love flippa I have made amazing money from it. I don't sell crap sites though I actually build them up to where they are making a decent amount of money then sell them. Most of my sales are 4 figures. My highest sale to date is 28,100 hope to beat that with my latest site I have for auction right now we shall see!!
