I'm wondering if anyone has noticed a link between having a domain that isn't expiring within the next year and improved SEO.

I've heard around the net that it is a good idea to register your domain for more than 1 year at a time, but I've never heard any proof of it actually working or even being beneficial.

Ive also heard of this, though I havent seen any shifts after doing a few experiments on a few domains of mine. I think it has a minimal effect, that's just what I have observed.

It's mentioned in one of Google's patents but I don't know of anyone who has done any kind of definitive test. It would be virtually impossible to test anyway because there are just too many confounding factors.

I always register for one year because I always expect my domains to be banned before the year is up, I still get traffic and make a profit.

Interesting, I had no idea. It would be quite difficult to test, however, if it's mentioned in a Google patent, then there must be something to it.

I've heard of this also.. although I do agree it's hard to test. I myself only register my domains for 1 year at a time.

Only domain I have registered for 10 years is for a legitimate business and the domain is 10+ years old ranking in the top 3 for every competitive KW.

It used to matter when domain registration was expensive and typically spammers would register it for one year to keep costs down. Nowadays with cheap registration prices, it makes no difference what so ever.
