HELP-Been RippeD oFF fOR Creating Website

Just create some problems to the created site, such as missing file, bad css layout. They will eventually ask you to fix. And you have chance to stated your point about half of the payment. That the most polite version when dealing with someone not ethically in biz.

Bad advice... In the end they only complain more because something does not work as it should... and they would even have an argument in curt...

I can only say the same the others said:
take the site down. maybe even add a notice that the site is down because the owner can't pay or evenis bankrupt :D (I bet they do not want to have that kind of image :) )

Some time back something like that happened to me, and I was like "uhhh what did I wrong??" but the reality is - if you delivered what you promised (not what they wanted to understand), its simply them being assholes...
go the correct way, tell them to pay, send them demand notes, and then go the next step depending on what the law in your country allows... And do not continue business with that scum.

Good luck!!!

If there business isn't performing as well as they would have liked that is not your problem, you done your job and you have every right to expect to be paid.

The point of my advice that they will eventually contact you for that reason and upon communication you can ask for half payment for repairing this problem. In case they complaining, they still need to contact you. And you have 2-way communication where half payment likely more easy to ask.

This work in Asian, since we (Asian) using A to get B. That what we call polite, unfortunately we can't say B in straight, unless there written agreement in it. I don't no in another countries, sorry.

I see, interesting how the cultures are different in how they handle things. I guess I would be in trouble in asia with my direct way :D

oops, seems deleting the index.php file has made the website dissapear!!

HEE HEE HEE;)

not a good choice in my opinion

Why not?,

Job is complete, ive made numerous attempts to get the rest of the money, no response to any emails.

When i try to call them they cut off the phonecall to voicemail. Ive done whats asked of me...and more.

And your advice would be?.....

I can certainy understand your reluctance to destroy a relationship and when money enters there is always a disaster looming. You seem desperate to not rock the boat but I think you have to realise that they must not value te relationship very much or they would not have put you in this position.

You have to have a frank conversation with them and tell them the consequences if the balance is not paid by an agreed timeframe. If they still don't play ball, pull the plug and wash your hands of it.

When should you be expected to work for free?
Compassion works a lot better than threats. Offer them a 90 day payment plan.
I install CSS-Killswitch on clients' sites that I anticipate being a pain.

Business and friendship are 2 different things man, do what ya gotta do.

Hey sorry to see you are having issues like this. I am going through something similar with a client who doesn't want to pay bc he got what my contract stated he would get, but he saw another website midway through project and wanted what they had for the same price. I actually have a lawyer handling him now.

The first thing you need to do is round up the evidence (emails) where they are stating they agree to payments and what they get for it. Your invoice is most important. since they paid the first half that counts as acceptance of agreement and they are bound to the contract. You have to send them an email stating you have all the evidence and that you are allowed by law to pull the site down till you are paid for your work. You can give them 24 - 48 hours to respond and then pull the site.
If they still don't pay then the next step is taking them small claims if its under $5gs.

Usually most people respond after the first legal, threat. especially if you let them know that the site would have to remain down till matter gets resolved in court which could takes months.

I think this answers your question. If they aren't happy with the site, they should at least be willing to talk to you to try to resolve the problem.

Don't use a half-way solution or play games. Just put up a notice that says the site has been temporarily disabled. When they contact you, simply try to have a reasonable conversation to see if you can come to some agreement about what you are owed, what they may feel still needs to be done, and what happens in the future when something does need to be updated.

If you only disable the payment page or try to blame third-party software, it could cause future legal problems or hurt your reputation. Same thing with saying it has been disabled for non-payment or because they are out of business. The notice doesn't need a reason - just say it's temporarily disabled and they should get the message and contact you.

If you aren't willing to address it directly, then chalk it up as a lesson learned, forget about it, and move on. Stressing about it forever will only keep you from working on something else that could be making money.

Do you also install footer links? I'd sue the heck out of any supplier who thinks they're smarter than the client.

Anyway, WealthWinner you should not blatantly be blackmailing your employer. Use a formal letter with a deadline and define a course of action if they don't comply. After that, do whatever you want with the site but you'll either need to go to court or return the money. It's better to be ethical in your part, otherwise it would only escalate further and you could be effectively ruining your reputation.
