Why Facebook Introduced Email - It's To Bust YOU!

You're deluded. They may have been awarded 1 billion but that doesn't mean they got much more than a few thousand dollars in fines. You are so off with this it's not even worth bothering going into it. Stupid thread.
Pretty much he summarized everything for you. Just cause someone got sued for millions of dollars doesnt mean he paid everything. Obviously facebook basically said u fuck with me then i ll put your ass into bankrupt.

Before you go spreading some false information , please find out how much facebook got from the 1.5 billion dollars they got from lawsuits.

They were just trying to make example of spammers and scare the next generation. I ll be surprised if they even got more than 2-3% of the 1.5 billion, even then i only think they got nearly 1%. Remember they were suing spammers not multimillion dollar companies. At most the biggest spammers were probably making 20-100k dollars/day in revenues from all their spamming thats still very high. Now do you think they were able to pay 700 million dollars to facebook.

Good point. Winning a judgement and collecting a judgement are two completely different things. And a $700 million dollar lawsuit goes away in a BK.

So what? Don't be a retard and try sending bulk mails to facebook users. And don't crack or exploit.

Lawsuit avoided. You won't get busted for wall posting, any lawyer would laugh out loud if they tried to define wall posts and shares as spam.

Personally I think fb is positioning itself to become the big boy on the internet, sort of the only place you want to go on the net sort of thing. Would not be surprised sometime in the future they offer their own search engine capability, taking on google.

We were talking about this in another thread dvno. How you perform the redirect (PHP, Javascript, whatever..) doesn't matter, Firebug (as well as other traffic sniffers) allows you to easily look at http headers.

You cannot prevent someone from finding out what site there browser is taking them to. It just doesn't work like that.

What about having iframes and hiding/cloaking everything?

Im sure its possible, anything is possible I would never go down and say its IMPOSSIBLE...

lol I'm getting way off topic here but..

I don't think you quite get it, but I understand you confusion. Forget about iframes, PHP redirects, or cloaking of any kind. Every single http request and response that a browser uses can be sniffed. The browser can do this itself (with an extension like firebug or httpliveheaders), or you can use software that directly analyzes packets as the pass through the network interface (ie wireshark).

I have seen a bug in firebug where certain ajax requests are not displayed, so your right it's not 100% impossible to hide certain things from firebug. This is by no means a solution to hiding an aff id however. The simple fact is that if a browser can load a web page, then packet capturing software that listens to the network card will ALWAYS be able to see the http requests and responses being used.

I know, I suck at explaining networking fundamentals. Google 'TCP/IP model', 'Application layer' or 'HTTP Protocol' and you will get a better understanding of what I'm saying.

I never said they COLLECTED.. I said they won those judgments.. there is nothing about what I said that was misinformative. As I said in my post, when I made it I was tired I didn't know the exact figure, but the FACT remains they are king of the castle when it comes to executing and winning spam lawsuits.

Regardless of how much they actually collect.. you honestly don't think if you were hit with such a judgment you would not be 110% fvcked for life if not for at least a good 7 years in bankruptcy?

The point of my post was to point out what others might not be noticing... and what could be a serious honeypot trap for BHers to fall into. As I mentioned in another post, it is one thing to just get accounts disabled, its another when you are no longer just breaking the terms of a site, but have charges brought against you that can destroy you. Really... do you want to take that lightly?

Let see what happens in a few months... if people are still going to go about gaming facebook with business as usual attitude after this.. it won't surprise me in the least if we see a new thread popping up everyday with someone being sued by facebook. Like I pointed out earlier, their new setup now makes it a slam dunk to prosecute now that they have positioned themselves with legal protection by definition of current laws.

Prediction for 2011 - Facebook spam cases exceed $10 billion... and they win them all.

this makes a lot of seance buddy thanks a lot for this side of story

This is exactly why I have LLC's and ONLY keep enough money in each bank account to barely cover my expenses. The rest I take through profit distribution. Seriously, if you logged in to any one of my LLC checking accounts the most you would find is about $100. Why, the LLC gets sued, all they can take is the money in the account.

Its nice having a family of attorneys and CPA's :D

Here I just want to add that their requirement for a phone contact when applying for a facebook username, is also a big concern. This way, they can easily profile you more correctly since they now know where your exact location and can know your whole family.

You just don't know who facebook is working for just like Google - ever heard of these two getting busted like Microsoft?

Why would you put your own name and number?

Also, if your doing this for business and worried about the phone number being verified you can always get a prepaid phone for $20 or so with enough air time to verify and account or 2. Just got to think out side of the box!!

They have email on the site, which is not even fully released yet, in order to expand and to further challenge google.

Not to "prosecute" spammers and land them into prison instead of civil court. Thats just some unintended, subtle side effect, and not really even worth mentioning. Even when people game fb these days emails still go out. Its no difference.

Half the time I read these threads, I think fb has at least several people on this board posting silly stuff. Maybe even dozens of accounts. Especially when I read "fb is dead, not worth spamming any more" kind of threads. Misinformation is their greatest weapon. It gives them the most leverage over marketers while spending the least amount of effort.

Even with all their money, which is more limited than you think, since their profit isn't that much compared to expenses, and might even be nonexistent when you take out accounting magic, they only have a finite amount of resources to fuck people with. The more they have to spend on messing with marketers, the less profit they have. Thats money that gets taken away from the already huge costs of expanding servers, and hiring an army of talented people (still tiny compared to google which they plan to challenge openly), and developing new products. Therefore, by spreading misinformation, which is further spread by normal marketers, they gain the most leverage in the situation as possible.

The majority of fb's money is directed towards other things than stopping spammers. They have so many other problems to deal with that fb security has a limited budget. They have global expansion, profitability, and google to deal with. You messing with some apps is not at the top of their list.

Very well said man. I couldn't have said it better myself;)

yes, a prepaid phonecard will do. The point here is Facebook is the only one I know of, that does not provide you to choose your own username during registration but only after you got the account. Then had to apply for a username when they need your phone number to verify. Why need phone verification when it's only a username. That is really odd.

Online giants like google, ebay and the likes, doesn't really care about our privacy but using privacy policy to its advantage and for more exploitation and to spam us.

Best wishes

They will get $0 from blackhatters and $0 from companies because who ever does blackhat doesn't have millions on their accounts to pay these mysterious amounts. FB can't develope fast when they concentrate on tiny little things. They have very big goals.
