It's pretty simple.... 80% off as advertisement and buzz... people frustrated and hostgator acted as server overloaded....then people got no choice but to get those 50% offers...

a win by 30% for hostgator LOL

but thats not true because some of us got the 80% off...
i also got a 50% off another package when i woke back up this morning.

See my post to Alexandra. You chumps don't know the first thing about how to take on deceptive advertisers or anything/anyone else. Go ahead and laugh and we'll see who laughs last.

yeah, real deceptive.. :paranoid:

i'm sure you'll get real far with the FBI and Hostgator since they said 'while supplies last'
call dateline so they can do a story on it

i guess these people never been part of a woot off or any other overloaded server purchasing situation.

this is pretty common and im just glad i got lucky and got mine.

damn sleepiegirl your smart putting in cart ahead of time. i freekin woke up at 5 EST and was like wtf i don't see it and went back to bed LOL when it was 4 CST still. smh.

I took the 3 year baby plan deal with 50% off, which is really cheap hosting: 3.10 euros per month is really nice :D

In 3.10 $ Bluehost is much Better than hostgator

Host gator is Scam

So nobody is here who get 80% discount..eh it seem a nice play from hostgator (stupid marketing)

I think there was no 80% discount it was just a trick to get lot of costumers!!

First time, I stated feeling that hostgator is Bul$$hit

These marketing tricks makes people think of bad parts too

Got the email about this but didn't bother as I'm into VPS or Dedi. I can see everyone is getting frustrated. But yeah like others stated it's just a marketing strategy, 50% isnt bad either :)

I think i have really bad luck, actually i was buying hosting before, but while chatting with Coustmer care, they told me to try in 15 minute and get 80% off, i thought 80% will live for long time ( may be two or three hours that time i wll try) but after 20 min the server was down!! that time 80% was gone..but still i got 50% not a bad deal for one year :)

I had an idea MAYBE it will work to get 80% off...

Order the current special and complain to support/sales saying that you didn't receive the 80% off as advertised and that you want a refund.

Maybe someone that has ordered the 50% off can try this and report back to us to see if it works.

Just an idea.

What they did to me was give me the 80% off coupon automatically, then when I put in domain it said oh sorry all 80% is gone, take this 50% off coupon instead, then when I got to checkout the 50% had gone down to 20%--same coupon code. You don't think this is highly illegal? Darn right it is. Everyone report them to the FCC and the FBI. Screw them and don't let them get away with it. Teach them a lesson they will never forget.
What trolling. If you were really so pedantic, you'd WELL know that the FCC and FBI aren't who to report advertising complaints to. Your very mention of them, rather than the proper regulatory agency, shows that you have no idea what you're talking about and just want to get a rise out of people.

Anyway, it's legal, so don't expect any agency to even give you the courtesy of an FOAD response.

For the record:

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/guides/baitads-gd.htm

The US FTC (from a larger list of illegal bait-ad practices) said:
c) The failure to have available at all outlets listed in the advertisement a sufficient quantity of the advertised product to meet reasonably anticipated demands, unless the advertisement clearly and adequately discloses that supply is limited and/or the merchandise is available only at designated outlets,
The part I bolded was clearly and adequately disclosed. It's explicitly LEGAL. So eat it.

(a) Accepting a deposit for the advertised product, then switching the purchaser to a higher-priced product,
They didn't "accept a deposit" before their cart switched to the higher price. So, again, LEGAL.

And yes, the agency that regulates ads is the Federal TRADE Commission. Not the FCC (Fed. COMMUNICATIONS Commission, that oversees stuff like TV and radio and usually seems to have nothing better to do than care if someone swears on the air).

As someone who writes a lot of ads, I pay attention to this sort of thing so I don't get woken up one day by feds knocking my door down, and so losers who want to make themselves feel big will only end up wasting their money if they try to sue me.

"Ignorance of the law is no defense" so I make sure to check every time I think of writing some ad that can be considered on the black hat side. Usually the difference between fine-worthy and okay is a matter of 3 or 4 words.

The HostGator deal was a properly-executed black-hat offer that by the looks of it covers all their bases from legal liability.

Really sucks for some affiliates who sent out to huge lists.

"Wow, thanks for the heads up on the Hostgator deal".. wtf .

May hurt your reputation and credibility for the next offer you send out. :(
