Im starting to do some websites for some local business's, the one I'm working on right now is for a DJ. Of course the site he wants up is dead simple and will only take me about 2 hours to do, but based on what it's worth to him what should I charge this guy for just putting the site up? Also, I told him I could make him show up in local searches for "sacramento DJ's" and am not exactly sure how to go about it but knew that I could get pointed in the right direction here on BHW. Basically this is a dead simple situation and I'm just trying to see who else has done this, I know plenty of you have, maybe you could give me a specific example from your experience. I was thinking of contracting him for monthly up keep as well, but again I want to make it worth his money as his goal is to blow the competition away on the internet in the Sacramento area. I know I'm fully capable of doing whatever needs to be done, but I just don't want to waste my/his time/money.
Thanks.

Do people really search for DJs online? I thought the clubs just call em up directly and have em play at their club. Well, in this case you should get him on a monthly contract basis for sure.

I hope you realize that in this case ..it is not only about SEO but also about Reputation Management. Even if the guy ranks 1 for the term "Sacramento Djs" .. people may not click on the website if the websites below his website say different things about him or are recommending other Djs instead.

Clients like Celebrities, government officials, etc have a lot written about them regularly so you HAVE to do reputation management. Sell this to him.

I am sure he will understand how important this will be for him ..so he will surely sign a monthly contract. And since you doing SEO + Rep management .. you should be charging anywhere from $700 to $1500 per month ( Or start with $ 2500 for the first month and then $1000 every following month ) - this is because the first month, you will need to put in a good investment.

Hope this helps.

I'm sure they do search for DJ's online, as this guy does every type of venue and if I live in a big city like Sacramento and was going to have a wedding, the first thing I'd do is get on google.
Monthly contract does seem to be the way to go, I'll give it a shot thanks!

Yes, they do search online for this service. A simple keyword research using GTool will bring already other sub-niches to explore like "wedding."

Only for the search term using "services," there is some competition, other than this...

KeepItHush, I would go about based on how much he charges per gig (day of work). Now with an average of jobs a month you can come out
more easily with how much to charge MONTHLY for your services.

Idea: Charge for the website what you would normally do considering the "features" you are installing (Video, flash, plugins, etc).

Then, when you rank him somewhere or he gets his first job from you (you advertise him using classifieds, free PR, etc-YOU KNOW YOUR BUSINESS)
Now he knows you can bring leads/jobs, he will more easily agree paying you monthly.

My experience. Good Luck :fing26:

be more reasonable than this. the guy is probably not even making this much.

If he has been doing it for a while, has all his own equipment and is any good he should be making that much in a decent weekend. On weekends with bigger venues you can pull in $3k easy.

There is a TON of money out there for DJs in major cities. Just be careful with promising SEO, even local SEO can be a pain if its a major area like Sacramento.

Promising SEO ranking in even small cities is a NO-NO.

I only promise results (increased leads), which so happens to be the sizzle that they want to buy. It's win-win.

I am a firm believer of being able to promise page 1 within 3 months as long as its in smaller cities. Of course no exact positions but page 1 should usually be achieveable

That's just a rule of thumb for me.

My marketing angle is to increase ROI, increase leads, and increase conversions.

Of course I can get 2 or 3 listings on the front page of Google in a small city with video alone within 12 hours but I'd rather stretch it out ;)

Then again how can you promise increased leads. Espacially in small cities the website might not increase the number of leads much at all, if not not at all

Do you think you can only get leads by SEO?

Anyway, this banter here is irrelevant because he's not dealing with a small city.

What I would do in this situation is, if I didn't already have my prices in line, I would look at other SEO firms for pricing and go from there. Your best bet, as mentioned before, is to spread out your SEO work over months; ie: 4 unique articles per month, distribution, etc.

The point here is to guarantee increased ranking, not positioning.

This guy would be small potatoes as far as web design is concerned. Just modify a wordpress template and throw it up for him, charge him $500 bucks. If you SEO him, do your market research and see how difficult it would be to rank for Sacramento DJ, and adjust your rates accordingly. He sounds like a $300-500 a month customer to me though. Just my thoughts. Remember, be fair, and don't gouge, and you'll get more customers than you know what to do with.

also what i do is i offer my clients incentives, For every referral that signs up with me i give him a discount and the more referrals that use my services eventually he they get a substantial discount. So you have them working for you , even if its handing out your business cards or your flyer's at their event, or place of business. So the more clients that you offer incentives to the more they would work for you and bring in more clients.
