Ahrefs intentionally made an llms.txt generator that doesn't work

Ahrefs earlier published an article that llms.txt is not necessary and most crawlers ignore it. I don't know if they published it as a satire on webmasters who still use llms.txt or just trying to rank for a new keyword, they came up with a ridiculous idea. They created an llms.txt generator that has exact same behavior of game hacks CPA landing pages. You enter your website, it processes the data, shows you multiple updates as if generating output in real time, and when you expect the results, it tells you to complete an action - a survey, an app download, etc. Here they want you to read their article on why llms.txt doesn't work.



I have seen several prominent SEO publishers sharing this tool (probably thinking if it's a real llms.txt generator). Google would've given us a penalty for misleading content if any of us does such a thing. But since it's a top brand, they keep their eyes half shut.

It caught a lot of people off guard for sure. When I first saw it being shared, I honestly thought it was a real generator too. I get the joke they're going for, but using a fake "generator" with a progress animation feels a little misleading, especially since a lot of users probably won't realize it's just there to reinforce their article. It did grab attention though, so maybe that was the point all along.

It's pretty clever tbh. But as an avid scraper, I think you should all definitely build out your llms.txt files into nice structured maps of your site's content hierarchy

Looks more like a marketing play than something that will change rankings anytime soon.

The interesting part is not the tool itself. It's how Quickly the SEO community accepted the idea before testing it. That says more about the current hype cycle than llms.txt.
