To be honest, white hat SEO just isn't that viable if you don't have brand recognition first, so I would recommend trying to make your brand newsworthy if you want to stick directly to the terms of service of platforms like Google.

If you decide to go gray hat, then I could recommend more where you astroturf the brand recognition to get there, closing the gaps on the rungs of the ladder.

Social media is big part of today's "white hat" SEO, for trust signals alone if for no other reason, so whether or not he makes newsworthy content the fact that he needs to use social media remains. In which case why not make newsworthy and viral-worthy content right from the get-go?

- approachable niche
- long tail keywords
- good site structure and technical SEO (mobile friendliness + site speed + clean UI + all important pages being accessible in maximum 3 clicks away from the homepage + schemas)
- good internal linking
- good topical authority
- topical clusters
- good on-page optimization (use SEO entities and LSI words, tables, graphs, charts, infographics, etc.)


Do these and hope that you're getting traffic in the next 3-6 months (less than 3 months if you're lucky and got everything right). It's doable, but - as you can see - this involves getting everything right and then waiting for google's mercy to throw you a bone.

In my opinion, it’s much better to focus on high-quality, well-researched content that actually solves users’ problems rather than just chasing quantity.
