Hi everyone,

A new update related to interest targeting in Meta Ads has started appearing in some ad accounts, and it introduces a slightly different approach inside the Detailed Targeting section.

Until now, most advertisers followed the same process when setting up campaigns. We would go to the interest search box and manually type keywords one by one. For example targeting people who like certain brands, use specific devices, or have particular hobbies. Many of us spent a lot of time building long combinations of interests this way.

With this new feature, instead of searching for interests one by one, you can now describe your target audience in a text format (up to around 2000 characters).

Meta’s system then analyzes this description and automatically generates the relevant targeting signals and interest combinations for you.

For example, you could write something like:

Women aged 30-40 living in Istanbul who are interested in organic skincare products and tend to purchase luxury beauty items.

Meta’s AI will analyze that description and try to build the appropriate interest clusters and signals automatically.

To me the message behind this change is pretty clear. Meta seems to be slowly moving away from the traditional manual interest-digging approach. Instead, they want advertisers to describe their ideal audience, while the algorithm handles the matching and targeting combinations in the background.

For people who often get lost between hundreds of interests in the panel, this could potentially save a lot of time.

The feature appears to be in testing, so it may not be visible in every ad account yet. But it definitely looks like another step toward AI-driven targeting inside Meta Ads.

Curious if anyone here has already seen this in their ad manager.

I believe they only released this feature to a certain number of countries, and not everyone yet. I do not see that on my profile. Which country are you based?

I’m seeing it only in some ad accounts, not all of them. So it looks more like a phased rollout or an account-level test rather than something strictly country-based.

Meta usually rolls out new features like this gradually before making them available to everyone.

This is a big shift. Meta basically moving toward natural language audience definition instead of manual interest stacking.

I run ads for service businesses and the manual interest targeting process is honestly tedious - browsing through hundreds of interests trying to find the right combos. If the AI can understand "small business owners in US who are interested in automating their sales process" and translate that into a proper audience, that saves a ton of setup time.

The risk though is less control and transparency. With manual targeting you know exactly what you're targeting. With AI description you have to trust the black box.

Would definitely test it once it rolls out more widely. Anyone already seeing better or worse CPLs with this feature?
Exactly, that’s the trade-off.

Manual interest targeting gives you transparency, but in practice most advertisers end up stacking dozens of interests and hoping the algorithm finds the right pockets anyway.

Meta has been moving in this direction for a while with Advantage+ audiences and broader targeting. This feels like the next logical step where the advertiser just defines the persona and the system handles the matching.

I agree the black box aspect is the main concern though. It will probably require more testing and trusting the algorithm a bit more than before.

Personally I’m curious to see how it performs in terms of CPA/CPL once it rolls out to more accounts.
