So I previously got a TikTok account from a friend. He organically built it to 200K followers.
His content was based on fortnite, mine is a completely different niche but still attracting the same people.

Now I started uploading some videos and they barely get any views. around 200-300 each.
I am a completely newbie to TikTok. What worked best for me was following trends and using sounds / templates.
Yet, I never got beyond 5,000 views on a TikTok video

What are your suggestions, what would you recommend me? Simply upload 4+ videos a day and see how it goes?
Or is there a certain amount of hashtags to use, does location matter, what's the deal?

I highly appreciate all your thoughts!

First, account may require re-warm up, just upload consequently
SEcond, it can be killed with fortnite keywords
Make sure your set up is correct, TIkTok cut range if your IP is crap

very hard to make old inactive accs go viral accs. Imo it is a dead account.

Your audience doesnt match your niche. Post consistently in your niche, follow trends, use relevant sounds and hashtags, and focus on watch time.

Followers who do not affect engagement are no different from bot.

Don't think you have 200,000 followers, think you're running a new account.

You said there used to be fortnitr content before on the acc and you are posting something else now.

It's quite possible that the content is getting recemmonded to existing followers who are interested in fortnie and since they don't get this, they are swiping away

Dead accounts can be restored but it's very hard to do so I'm afraid. I think it would be best to start from scratch.

It’s totally normal to see low reach when switching to a completely different niche. TikTok’s algorithm doesn’t push your content based on old followers — it focuses on how new viewers engage. Try posting 3–5 videos per day for a week using your new niche, experiment with different hooks and sounds, and keep everything consistent. The algorithm usually needs a few days to “learn” your new direction. Don’t worry too much about hashtags — focus more on watch time and engagement.

Thx! That souns great. I revived my dead YouTube page for example. It's always possible. 100%

To all the other negative comments, a comeback is achievable and the dead account can be a great base for your brand.
I bought it for my YouTube channel in the first place, so I was able to extend my fanbase with over 200K new fans.

Idc if they active or not since I have no real focus on making money with TikTok. People see 150K subs on YouTube, go to TikTok and see almost 200K followers there too.
They think the brand is way bigger as expected and potentially boost my YouTube's revenue by actively watching the videos.

Even 200-1000 views per video can make a huge difference already while redirecting new people to my main platform.

Another funny thing is; that my niche is compatible with fortnite / gaming content and that a majority of the traffic would enjoy watching my videos.

Cheers!

  • Start fresh if engagement stays low: TikTok may throttle reach after niche shifts
  • Post 3–5 times daily: consistency helps train the algorithm
  • Use 3–5 relevant hashtags: mix niche, trending, and broad tags
  • Hook viewers in first 2 seconds: fast pacing matters
  • Engage in comments: reply, pin, and spark discussion
  • Use trending sounds smartly: match them to your niche
  • Study top creators in your niche: reverse-engineer or copy what works
  • Don’t rely on follower count: TikTok pushes content, not accounts
  • Test different formats: skits, voiceovers, tutorials, reactions
  • Track what gets watch time: views matter less than retention

Just keep posting the video, this happens when you drop your account, so it takes time for it to rock up, about a month in practice, so just keep shooting and that's it.

Yeah, that’s pretty common when you take over an old account in a different niche. TikTok kind of “resets” the reach when it doesn’t understand what your new content is about. Best move? Post consistently, test different styles, and maybe start interacting with similar creators in your niche. Once the system sees what audience you’re targeting, your reach will recover over time.

In my view, patience is the key. You are off to a great start with such positive views in only 4 days. Paying for more followers will increase the number, but not their interaction. Continue doing what brings you results.

Instead of abandoning your account, the best approach is to consistently post videos daily with consistent content to gradually restore engagement.
