Blogging Without Backlinks – Does It Really Work in 2025?

True, backlinks definitely give that push, but I’ve seen pure content + smart internal linking work well too, especially in low-competition niches. Backlinks speed things up, but strong topical coverage can still win on its own over time. It really depends on how competitive the niche is.

Because AFAIK topical coverage simply means niche site (ie. a site that only addresses one niche and one niche only, and - if that's the case - then niche sites have been being topically covered long before this term was a buzz phrase).

So yeah, please let me know what your idea of strong topical coverage is, I'd appreciate it!

Smart internal linking -> connecting your strong pages to new/important ones with natural anchors, so both users and Google don’t get lost. Think of it as giving your own posts a GPS.

Strong topical coverage -> content clustering, covering the subject from all angles (guides, FAQs, comparisons).

Basically showing Google: “Yep, I know this niche better than my mom knows WhatsApp forwards.”

Yes, you can rank sites without backlinks. No, you can't rank sites without backlinks. Both are correct statements in their own context. We can only understand context based on multiple factors like niche, competition, KD, traffic source, user intent, etc.

So, you might be right in saying that it's possible to rank a site without any backlinks. But people may fail to replicate your results due to other parameters.
