Funny, I was in a bank for something or other way back when and I had a pager and some woman asked me if I was a doctor.

I was a salesperson for a bottled water company.

Yeah i like and had a blackberry. I especially liked the little scroll pad above the keypad, where you scroll by just sliding on it. This is great for task managers. They keep going out of business, and then making a comeback every few years, with a new flagship product. lol

I didn’t have one, but I did look after a few companies who used them and we had to run blackberry enterprise server in order to get corporate email accounts working on them and it was an absolute pain to set up and manage.

I remember when iPhone and active sync came along and it just removed the need for this expensive software and complicated procedure and seeing corporate emails being suddenly so easy to install on a phone was amazing.

Perhaps I did, but I’ve forgotten. Because that would have made sense, the amount of troubleshooting we used to do with them.

The most crazy part is how popular they were - they were the go-to device for business users. And then just like that, they disappeared once the iPhone came out. And buttons on phones disappeared along with them!!

I had an old blackberry curve right when they switched from the trackball to the trackpad it sucked when it was windy outside and it would scroll to whatever adjusting the sensitivity didnt really help. I still miss it. Unihertz makes modern android phones that look and feel like blackberry's

I just saw a reel the other day of the movie Blackberry (came out in 2023, decent watch) about how they bypassed networks to send messages over data.

And that reel sent me down such a BIG nostalgia trip.

My first one was a Bold 4 - thiccc device. It was a used device, I got simply because every around me had BBM.

Then I got me a brand spanking new Bold 5 aka Blackberry 9790

Sleek as f..., it had the unlock button at the top center. You gripped the phone and unlocked it using your index finger. The phone had a lovely curve at the top. Peak ergonomics.

That email notification icon was bae, because I had set it just to my email which had Paypal connected to it. So that icon showing up meant I received monies.

I loved everything about this phone. The push mail features (faster than the web, I tested), BBM. The email UI. Everything.

"Sent via BlackBerry" was such a flex lol.

Never had Blackberry but always wanted one, had Nokia with Symbian, forgot the model now. Honestly it was pretty good and I was quite productive using it. It survived being submerged in oil on a regular basis - I had terrible hand eczema then and slathered my hands with cooking oil all the time to ease symptoms. Somehow that phone didn't die from that. I doubt modern phone without keyboard would survive that.

No, I didn't have one. I heard a rumour that they were forced to discontinue production because Blackberry devices were not hackable.
