Is it important to set keywords?

Hi BHW,

The first time I learnt about SEO was from the Wordpress Plugin "all in one seo". It lets you set the: Home Title, Home Description, and Home Keywords.

I have a few questions:
1. If I don't set the keywords, will it happen automatically? Will I be missing out in any way in terms of my page rank by not setting my keywords? Will Google pick up my keywords naturally with the most frequent words on my page?

2. Is it important to change your title, description, and keywords for all your other pages? Lets say I have an online store and I'm selling "Computer A". Is it important to set specific keywords for the page selling "Computer A"?

3. If I set up the keyword: "Computer A" ONLY, is there a chance that my product page will come up in google when someone types: "Computer A reviews" GIVEN that I have the word "reviews" on that page (but not specifically set in the keywords section)?

I want to know this because I'm preparing an e-commerce store (with either: zencart, PrestaStore, OpenCart) and they don't have a "All in one SEO" plugin per se. I'm not sure if there's even a default installation in their CMS to set the home title, description, and keywords.

1) Meta keywords are one of the least important factors in on-page seo. I can't remember the last time I even used them.

2) Yes, title is the #1 most important on-page factor for seo. Your individual pages should target individual keys or phrases. Your title should reflect that.

3) Sure there's a chance. But other things equal, pages with "review" in the title likely outrank yours. No competition? Give it a shot.

I would suggest using Joomla and Virtuemart. Works like a charm for content and product sites.

Also SEF URL is also no problem, even for products!

I'm going to try with the CMS I've mentioned because they're specifically designed for e-commerce. With Joomla+VirtueMart, I haven't tested it but the fact Joomla is not specifically made for online shopping sites, I'll use the other ones...not a very good reason without actually testing it so I'll go and have a look now!! thanks!

The blog post title becomes your meta title. This is what displays at the top of the browser when you view the page. Using AIO SEO you can customize the meta title on a per page or per post basis by entering your new title at the bottom of the page/post in the AIO SEO section. This will give you the custom meta title leaving your post/page title alone.
