I discovered something counterintuitive about local SEO last year that completely changed my link building strategy. While everyone's obsessing over guest posts and directory submissions, I stumbled onto a goldmine that most local businesses completely ignore: podcast links.

Here's the thing - you don't need to actually start a podcast to get these high-authority links. I learned this when helping a local plumber in Denver who was struggling to compete with bigger companies dominating the SERPs.

The Strategy

I set up a free account on Anchor.fm and created what I call a "placeholder podcast" for his business. The process took maybe 30 minutes total. I came up with a relevant name like "Denver Home Solutions Podcast," wrote a simple description about local home improvement tips, and created basic cover art using Canva.

The key requirement was uploading a trailer. I just recorded a 2-minute intro on my phone explaining what the "podcast" would cover - nothing fancy, just authentic content about local home services.

The Results Were Immediate

Once Anchor distributed the podcast, we automatically got links from:

  • Anchor.fm (DA 80)
  • Stitcher (DA 84)
  • TuneIn (DA 89)
  • Player.fm (DA 86)
  • Castro.fm (DA 47)
  • PocketCasts (DA 68)
That's six high-authority links pointing to his website within 48 hours. Zero ongoing work required.

Why This Works for Local SEO

These aren't just any links - they're from trusted audio platforms that Google recognizes as legitimate businesses use. For local businesses, this kind of domain authority boost can be the difference between page 2 and the local pack.

The beauty is scalability. I've since used this exact method for a dental practice, a law firm, and even a local restaurant. Each time, the same result: instant high-authority links that would cost thousands through traditional link building.

Most local SEO professionals are still stuck thinking traditionally. Sometimes the best opportunities hide in plain sight.

Thank you rankrebels for your insightful approach.

Did you see any ranking movement from this, or is it too early to tell?

You can embed Maps on there too but it's not as effective as it once was. Definitely hit those with tiered links to see some benefit.

For good results -- You will need to add audio schema (add all podcast urls) and embed audio to the target page.

Agree it's not that effective now. What we do is create some tier 2 links to these podcast links and even send some quality traffic.. now that still works

It redirects to creators.spotify.com, so it's spotify.

Nice. Thanks for sharing i did tried and got already listed most of it. Awesome.

Brilliant strategy! Using podcast platforms for local SEO links is smart, fast and super underrated-definitely trying this.

Yes. That's absolutely correct my friend

Awesome share. Have you ever seen these podcast links get removed over time, or do they usually stick. Im thinking about trying this in a highly competitive niche and wondering about long term stability.

What a genius idea, thank you so much. Just launched a podcast page for our business, you can even link ur url in the description!!!

There's plenty of AI podcast generators out there. Hopefully this improves our rankings, thanks again bro.

These are definitely permanent links

You don't even need a full length podcast for this. 2 to 5 min audio will also do.

Such a clever idea. I always focused on guest posts, but this is a fresh approach. How do you make sure the 'placeholder podcast get noticed by those big platforms. Any tips on the initial promotion
