IMO, SEO is slowly dying — or at least transforming . I’ve been thinking about what could replace it or how it might evolve.

In the near future, I believe SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will shift into SAO — Search Assistant Optimization.

What is SAO?
Well, we already have ChatGPT sitting at #6 globally among all websites in the world, with 5.5 billion visits according to Similarweb stats. It already has internet access and can perform research for users. So I think the future of “search” will be driven by AI assistants, not traditional search engines.

That means our new goal will be to optimize content for tools like ChatGPT and other AI assistants — not just Google. That’s what I call SAO.

It’s coming. Or maybe it's already here.
What do you think? Does this make sense, or does SAO already exist under a different name?

All AI companies consume human written content to train their models. SEO and human written content is not going anywhere, it will just keep getting competitive. Because if Google was to completely kill organic reach, they'll stop getting new content.

Maybe but our job as SEOs will remain the same.

Only difference will be that instead of optimizing for one or two giant search engines we will do it for multiple smaller ones.

Because they will be citing sources and we can be among them.

Your point makes a lot of sense, and the idea of shifting from SEO to SAO (Search Assistant Optimization) feels spot-on. We’re already seeing AI assistants favor content that’s structured, clear, and intent-driven. This means ranking in Google might become secondary to being the preferred reference for AI responses. If that shift continues, optimizing for AI visibility could become the new game, and it’s already starting to happen in some sectors. Definitely worth watching.

Though it is at number six ,there would be huge difference between what traffic Google gets versus chatgpt.

That is what ChatGPT think about it.

Makes sense. Search is more about answers now than links. Maybe SAO is just the next evolution of content strategy, focused on structured, well-labeled data that language models can easily digest.

It might have taken good amount of seo , but people have not stopped using Google. It is used by billions on daily basis.

True

Yes, but how many % of new users did Google gain last year? While ChatGPT made like 200-400% growth, just a question of time.

SEO isn’t dying, it’s evolving. Traditional tactics like keyword stuffing or spammy links are fading, but high-quality content, topical authority, and user intent optimization are more important than ever. With AI and search assistants rising, SEO is shifting toward answer-focused, semantic content. It’s not dead, just smarter.

This kind of post is really getting out of control, I think this is the 4th or 5th post about ''seo is dead'' this week, everyday someone is posting about it

Just clickbait in title=)

true in some ways. it’s kinda already happening in practice. brands that adapt early will win as AI assistants become the main search layer. I also think that its basically the same thing just morphed into a different structure. so SEO won't be dead but rather have to adapt to the changing enviroment

You're onto something - SEO is transforming, and optimizing for AI assistants like ChatGPT could be the next big thing. This shift means creating clear, factual, and conversational content that AI tools can easily interpret and summarize.

Traditional SEO isn’t dead, but SAO (Search Assistant Optimization) is definitely becoming a part of the game. It’s time to adapt and think beyond just Google.

You'r spot on. SAO is already starting to happen! Optimizing for AI assistants like ChatGPT will be key as user behavior shifts from search engines to conversational tools.

or account farming, which there are a ton of on this forum. Obviously new users just copying what someone else wrote and using chatgtp to rephrase it. It's so glaringly obvious.
Where I copyright that? I didnt check whole forum , but that post is my thoughts, if you talk about title, that is how it works , everywhere, someone did viral tiktok other will copy, change it and doing the same , know why? Because people like it and it works.

how it already works, got examples?

This is an interesting point. I also believe optimizing for AI assistants will become a key part of digital marketing. As more people use tools like ChatGPT for answers, content creators need to think about how their information can be discovered by these systems.

I think SEO will be closely linked to structured data and prompt ready content writing. Have you tried writing articles that are easy for AI to summarize and cite
