GEO is eating SEO

I just read news article about how geographic data is changing SEO Completely.

Do you think focusing on geo-targeting is more important than traditional SEO now?

Geo-targeting is important primarily when your business depends on local customers or requires in-person services or product pickups.
Whether geo targeting matters depends entirely on the nature of the business or service model.

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to, but I do believe that Local SEO will fully replace global SEO soon, yeah... With mankind going into a new era (free travelling and free roaming all over the place), and with all wars getting to an end soon and all war mongers and criminal psychopaths and the globalists getting wiped out, people all over the world will start travelling a lot in the coming decades, and this means that a lot of people who use google will probably be on the road when they use it, and are interested in info / tips (culture tips, food tips, hotels, etc) on stuff from the places they travel to, which is where most of the traffic will be in the coming years / decades, especially since generic queries are always answered by Wikipedia, Reddit, ChatGPT, etc.

And google knows these trends (and have all of the data they need to back them up), which is part of the reason for which I think they don't give a rat's ass about global SERPs anymore and are instead focusing on Local SEO.

So yeah, even though I'm not fully sure what you're referring to when you say GEO replacing SEO (you're probably referring to Local SEO I assume), I do believe that there's a big truth in that :)

Geo-targeting is very important now, especially for local businesses. Google prioritizes local results, mobile searches, and map packs. But traditional SEO (content, backlinks, speed) is still essential.

Best strategy: Combine both for strong local + overall rankings.

Geo-targeting isn’t replacing traditional SEO — it’s becoming a crucial part of it. If your business serves specific areas, combining strong local targeting with solid SEO fundamentals is now more important than ever.

I don't think it's fair to separate the two. Of course you want your stuff to rank in regions where it's relevant. That's been the case for a long time. It also just so happens that almost universally, when you have an online business, most of the money is in the US, and therefore the US is what you're targeting.

Geo-targeting is very important now, especially for local searches like “near me” or city-based queries. But traditional SEO is still the foundation. The best results come from combining both — strong SEO with smart local targeting.

It depends on the user intent. If the user wants information that's relevant to his location, then geo-targeting will help, otherwise Google will prefer authority over any other factors.

Yes I agree I also use GEO Technique And I See My Console Increasing DAY BY DAY Seriously its Working

Do you have a source that confirms this or is it based on experience?

It's based on experience. You can try searching 2 keywords "make money online" and "web design services" on Google.

"MMO" will have AI overview and cards with methods to make money online. "Web design services" will have tabs like "near me", "open now", "online appointments", etc. and below that you can see "Results for **your current location**" and next to it, there will be a button "Use precise location". After a couple of results, there will be a map featuring Places.

For "make money online", Google didn't bother about local services, but for "web design services", they explicitly filtered results based on location. It wasn't the case earlier and they used to do it only when you search for "services near me" or "services in NY" etc. But now they started filtering results based on user intent.

Google now filters results by location based on user intent showing local services by default for queries like web design services but not for broad searches like "make money online."

That's what I said. We need not have to panic about Geo eating SEO for all niches. If our niche or keywords are filtered for "local services" or "location-based targeting," then we should optimize site for Local SEO. Otherwise, we can just ignore it and focus on content.

Yep, geo-targeting is becoming a major force in SEO, especially with AI-driven results that adapt heavily to user location. It’s not about replacing traditional SEO, but evolving with it. If you ignore the geographic layer, you’re likely missing real search intent and cutting off organic reach in key areas. Some advanced setups even leverage mobile proxies to simulate local presence in different regions, which can seriously help when dialing in geo-optimized strategies for better visibility.

Local SEO is booming here on BHW as well and yes local signals are making bangs all around.

Yeah, geo-targeting is becoming a big deal now — search engines want hyper-local relevance. But I’d say it’s not about replacing traditional SEO, it’s about layering it. You still need solid basics + local signals to really win.

Yes, Geo-targeting is definitely reshaping SEO, especially as people rely more on local searches through mobile devices.
