GEO is eating SEO

GEO is not eating SEO. It is eating blogging websites.
I have seen a increase in traffic for the e-commerce and service based websites

I think it depends heavily on the type of content you're ranking. Geo-targeting works great if your service or product has local relevance But traditional SEO content quality, intent-matching, proper on-page structure still dominates most global SERPs.That said, combining both can give strong results, especially when you're trying to capture both global traffic and local conversions.

As someone who’s been working in SEO for years, I can confirm, geo-targeting has become a critical piece of the SEO puzzle. Google is constantly personalizing search results based on user location, especially on mobile.

If a business isn’t optimized for local SEO (The GEO), things like Google Business Profile, local citations, and proximity signals, it’s leaving money on the table. Ranking globally is nice, but owning your local space is where the conversions really happen.
Bri it GEO- Generative engine optimisation not local SEO

For local businesses, geo-targeting is a great way to drive quality traffic and conversions to your site. Google always display local seo results at the top of the page, so having your site listed there is definitely an advantage.

GEO targeting helps in ranking a website locally and getting the most out of it in its local area.
It helps in getting the website rank fast

SEO is not dead but GEO is definitely the first priority. Location based competition is much less than global and much easier in terms of earning. I think it should be the first priority for beginners.

"Eating" SEO is a bit of a stretch. Geo isn't replacing SEO more so than it's becoming a more critical layer for trying to rank in the competitive spaces (especially for local services or region-specific content).
You get the feel that it's more relevant, but it's not a total replacement. It's not an either/or scenario, it's SEO+geo or you'll be missing out on reach.

GEO - Generative Engine Optimization!

It feels like I'm hanging out with dumb bots or graduates of an Indian kindergarten.

I just read news article about how geographic data is changing SEO Completely.

Do you think focusing on geo-targeting is more important than traditional SEO now?
Yes, I think the time has been demanding to emphasis on GSEO to SEO.

Already GSEO on fire and generating massive traffic and conversion.
So, what bothering us to focus on it?

Geo-targeting is becoming a huge part of SEO, but that doesn’t mean traditional SEO is dead. It’s more like SEO is evolving to include more local and personalised elements.

As an SEO specialist, I’ve seen this shift firsthand. Search engines like Google are prioritising user intent and location more than ever. For example, when someone searches for “best pizza,” Google assumes they mean near me, and shows results based on their location – even if they didn’t type it.

Yes, if your business or website serves a specific area, geo-targeting should be a major focus.
That said, traditional SEO still matters – elements such as high-quality content, backlinks, technical SEO, and site speed remain crucial. Geo adds another layer to it.

In short, it’s not “geo versus SEO” – it’s more like geo is now a key part of a strong SEO strategy. The best approach is to blend both.

Yes, GEO (Geographic SEO) is becoming more powerful — search engines prioritize local and location-based results now.
Think “near me” searches, local keywords, and Google Maps — it's SEO with a hyper-local twist.

Interesting topic! I think geo-targeting is definitely becoming more critical, especially with Google’s push toward local intent and personalized SERPs. Traditional SEO still matters, but combining it with strong geo signals — like local citations, GMB optimization, and localized content — can really boost visibility. Curious to hear how others are adapting their strategies.

Geo-targeting is becoming increasingly important in SEO, particularly as search engines prioritise local and personalised results. When people search for services or businesses, they often add terms like "near me" or the name of their city, and search engines use geographic data to show the most relevant results. That means businesses that focus on local SEO, such as using location-based keywords, creating Google Business profiles, and obtaining local backlinks, have a better chance of appearing in those searches.

Traditional SEO is still important for building overall authority and content quality, but geo-targeting helps you connect with nearby customers who are more likely to convert. So, it’s not about choosing one over the other; it’s about combining both to get the best results.

No, GEO (local SEO) is not eating SEO — it’s becoming a strong part of it. Local search is growing, especially for businesses targeting nearby customers. It complements overall SEO, not replaces it.

Geo-targeting is definitely becoming more important, especially for local intent and mobile searches. But I wouldn’t say it’s replacing traditional SEO — they complement each other. Solid on-page and backlink strategies still matter; geo just adds another layer of relevance.

I think geo-targeting is getting more weight in SEO now, especially for local services. But it won’t kill traditional SEO content quality, backlinks, site speed etc still matter. Best strategy: layer geo + local signals on top of a strong overall SEO foundation.

Geo targeting is really changing the game in seo. search engines care more than ever about local relevance, so showing up where your audience actually is makes a huge difference. The sweet spot is finding a balance between traditional seo and location focused strategies.

Geo-targeting is definitely becoming more important, especially as search engines and AI tools get better at delivering hyper, they work best together. while geo-targeting helps capture local or region-specific traffic more effectively. So, for a strong strategy, we want to integrate both.

I would not say geo-targeting is replacing traditional SEO, but it's becoming much more important for businesses with local or regional audiences. Strong rankings still depend on content quality, authority, relevance, and technical SEO, but geographic signals can significantly influence visibility when location matters.

its just a part of seo, not excluded bcuz for that also algo is doing its job.
