How to: start a direct message

Can you please confirm, if I get the option to start a new conversation after I post 15 comments or if I create 15 new conversation threads...

Replies to other people's threads count as well.
However, making threads and posts in the Lounge will not increase your posts count.

so there must be a smart system, that can different spam post or manual post.
I try to get 15 post. I hope this post wont count as spam post.
I dont have idea, should i keep lurking or make a post. Just keep going meet my 15 post.

Instead of wondering about that, we suggest you to just get involved into the conversations, help members and answer questions. In essence, be helpful and that would help you stay out of troubles and infractions.

2.0 Update!

Once you've reached that golden number of 15 posts (that are of excellent quality and contributing top-notch stuff to the forum) you will be able to start conversations (also known as PMs) with other members.

There are a couple of ways you can do this.

First off, you can start a conversation from your inbox. To get to your inbox, you can double click on the envelope icon in the top right menu (circled below). Once you're there, click 'Start a New Conversation':

You will be taken to the Conversation composer:

In the 'Participants' box, start typing the username of the person (or people) you want to have a conversation with. The system will bring up a list of suggestions as you type. If you are adding multiple participants, separate their names with a comma.

Then, type something useful in the 'Conversation Title...' box, and type your message into the main text editor. You can decide whether other people in the PM can invite more members into the conversation, or whether you want to lock the conversation, by ticking the boxes at the very bottom of the editor.

When you are happy with the conversation, click 'Start a Conversation' and it will be sent to the other participants. This conversation will also appear in your inbox.

The other way you can start a conversation is particularly useful if you decide to PM someone while you're browsing threads.

You can click on any members name, whenever they post, to see this pop-up menu:

Click 'Start a Conversation' and you will be taken to the same conversation composer, but this time, the participant field will be pre-populated. You can then create your conversation in exactly the same way as above.

It's worth noting that you must leave at least 30 seconds between each PM you send - the system will not let you send more than one message in any 30 second window. This is an attempt to prevent PM spam.
Nice! What struck me the most was the "It's worth noting that you must leave at least 30 seconds between each PM you send - the system will not let you send more than one message in any 30 second window. This is an attempt to prevent PM spam."

How is the quality of the post counted within system? I have tried not to spam my way up to 15 posts but some replies have been short 'Thank you's due to genuine appreciation

Hi @FarmingSim

First of all, welcome to BHW ;)

Everything is fine until people start spamming with short messages or copying/pasting them every minute for the next hour and so on.

Hey there @gettingbetteratseo ~ it can all feel a little overwhelming at first here as there's so much to tap into. Take it slowly and look at the threads that you may be interested in first, follow the conversation and add responses when you can. Take a look at The Master List for Newbies from @Zwielicht ~ REALLY HELPFUL. Good luck to you!

Hi, how you doing. the experience is great so far. I haven't seen a forum like this before. people are really helpful here and I am finding a lot of useful information here.

I have more than 15 messages, but I still can't write in private messages.
I've found a lot of useful information on this forum, but sometimes I need to clarify something in private messages, and I still can't do it.

Is there a limit to post?

Hi @Nikolai Solkov

There is no specific daily limit on the number of comments/posts you can make on BHW, but the key is quality over quantity.

Post relevant content, and avoid generic replies like "Thanks" or "Great post".

No post count inflation, spamming, or short messages.

Besides 15 messages, there are no other criteria required to write messages? Right?
