I sold all my altcoins, and here’s why

Everyone has already forgotten the screams on the Internet when people lost all their money due to the fall of the crypt. Someone took out loans, sold their last property in order to invest in the fast-growing miracle crypto)

No matter how “promising” altcoins might look, they all dance to Bitcoin’s tune. If BTC takes a nosedive into crypto winter, altcoins will tank by 90%. And honestly, I’m not willing to wait five years just to break even.

Here are 4 reasons why I decided to dump my altcoin portfolio:

  1. Bitcoin failed to hit $100K even when the Fear & Greed Index was at 94. If it couldn’t break that milestone in such a bullish environment, it’s a red flag for a major market correction.
  2. Crypto winters always follow halvings, usually about 9 months later. Right now, it feels like the perfect time to sell while the market is still riding high.
  3. The “Trump factor.” Sure, he promised to make crypto “great,” but let’s be real—crypto thrives best when governments stay out of the way, not when they try to get involved.
  4. ASIC chips are hitting their physical limits.

Let me explain this one. Over the past 8 years, ASIC miners shrank from 64nm to 5nm, fueling insane growth in Bitcoin’s hash rate. But in 2024, we’re reaching a point where increasing computational power will be minimal. This directly impacts Bitcoin’s security and growth potential. And with Proof-of-Work blockchains, one golden rule always holds: no network growth, no new all-time highs.

Between 120k and 140k. Your are completelly off.

1.Yet - BTC will reach 100k in this bull cycle. Lol, it has to had this psychological resistance at 100k Back in history was at 19k, 69k, 99k now.
2. Yeah, "usually" btc hit ath after the halving...unless this halving hit a new ath before halving, so the cycle it's diff.
3. Sooo wrong. The adoption will come when governments will recognize btc as a serious asset. Because of the news around government btc rised this time.
4. There's no rules!

You left a bog chunk of money on the table. Yes, good to sell btc, not all, just a part, but asife that, the alts will pump

If someone did that, then it's because they bought the top, not the bottom. It's much more likely to happen something like this with someone like OP, who already sold and will need to deal with the temptation of buying again for the next months, because the FOMO will be huge in 2025

Not everyone wants to risk large amounts of money playing on the crypto market, where they can lose everything. Business development, stable growing income for years, suits me better. And there is no need to risk large sums and worry about whether it will rise or fall.

If governments start to really recognize Bitcoin, the 'Travel Rule' is going to be a big deal. You heard of it? They've been working on it for 3 years.
Crypto winter? Where were you during the last nine months?
Been a full-blown altcoin addict since late 2023. Anyone else addicted to the pump and dump life?"

Good valid reasons to sell. I've also sold some of my positions for the same reasons.

The market is still very bullish. BTC could go above 100k within the first week of December.

cycle tops tend to be around 12-18 months after halving (when looking at prior cycles). Obviously prior performance doesnt neccessarily guarantee future performance, but in my opinion we still have a decent amount of upward momentum to go through. Especially for altcoins, majority of which have barely moved and are still siting around their all time low.

Time will tell i guess and you cant go broke taking profits.

Ya right.....tell when was the last time you used crypto in the real world to buy stuff.
I pay for my domains, for my hosting company, I buy stuff on amazon. etc etc
"okay but you can't buy nothing outside of internet world"
I bought a property with crypto.

hmm, make sense of what you said. but again it's crypto, currently it's hype but i think it will be dump soon

There are only two possibilities from here. Market will either go up or down. So you have 50% chance of being correct.
Or stay sideways.

Remember in 2020 when most altcoins didn't even come close to their ATH after the halving? Besides, the altcoin index is sitting at 83. That's pretty overbought if you ask me. A big correction is long overdue

Fundamentals are there too with a pro-crypto incoming administration, corporations and countries start to including BTC on their balance sheets.
Let's talk real fundamentals. Last week, corporations pumped way more money into Ethereum ETFs than Bitcoin ETFs. And don't forget about the billions of dollars in seized BTC the US government is about to dump on the market.

The market peak usually occurs about 400 - 500 days after the Bitcoin halving. If you look at past halving charts, you'll see this pattern. So, the next market peak should be between July and October. After that, there will be a sharp drop. My plan is to sell after April and then buy again after the big dip.

The only tokens I'll ever invest in are the ones I created. Nothing else. Crypto can burst at anytime and I've lost too much over the years.
Imo a few big whales control the whole thing and they just let it go up to get people investing their savings and then dump it.
The last crypto bubble they said over 2 trillion dollars was lost. Where did that money go? They write everything off and nobody asks questions later just saying oh crypto is unpredictable sorry.
I don't trust whoever is behind it right now. And I think its China. And some movement that you will own nothing and be happy.

Most altcoins reached their ATH in 2021. Last bull-run was in 2021, not in 2020.
Micro, small, medium and large caps reached their ATH in 2021, few exceptions (mostly are very old coins launched lake ten, seven years ago)
No big correction is overdue for now, we waited for 9 months until we see this altcoin chart great again, the bull-run is just starting and you are already talking about a big correction, that doesn't make sense

Historically, Bitcoin halvings have been followed by price increases. While you might think there could be a downturn after a halving, this pattern does not guarantee a severe “crypto winter”

Dude, you're tripping. Which microcaps hit their ATH in 2021? Most of those projects launched during the 2020-2021 bull run are dead! Over 50% of them failed. And for the coins launched in 2021, it's even worse - over 70% are already gone. You're seriously overestimating those microcap gains. As for the macros, yeah, I guess you could squint and see a 20% bump in 2021 before the 95% crash. But let's not kid ourselves.

You are just reinforcing what I said...yes, basically any coin crashed in 2022. Most micro caps probably died and are not active anymore for this bull-run. Conclusion? Don't keep holding them, which is obvious, just enjoy this bull-run and sell them when their narrative is receiving more attention, if you keep holding them, you are going to definitely lose +95% and need to keep holding for years to see a break-even price again (or the coin simply dies and you lose all).

The peak is at the bull-run, sell them there, don't keep holding. But also don't be a weak hand selling everything before the bull-run itself because you're afraid of making mistakes and holding coins for years. When you see several coins of the same narrative pumping at the same time (like Web2 utility coins now), it's time to sell them (like HBAR, XRP and so on, maybe they will grow a bit more, but anyone holding them, should consider selling them right now, since they will eventually fall and if you keep holding for whatever reason, you are in serious risk, money will start flowing into another narrative soon).

Which microcaps hit their ATH in 2021? Most of those projects launched during the 2020-2021 bull run are dead! - Exactly, they are dead now, but they gave juicy profits for people in 2021, when they were active. If you buy a micro cap in 2025, you need to bear in mind that it's a short-term investment, if you keep holding this shit for 2026 and beyond, you'll probably lose at all, the ATH for them will be in 2025.
