For the past year I have been building iOS apps. Building consumer apps, especially distributing them, is harder than I had anticipated and my learning has been slow and iterative. The main motivation is to have financial independence in life, and choose my own adventure while building stuff that is actually useful to the world (in one way or another).

What Happened So Far
I have a fair bit of Full Stack Developer experience, though iOS has been only for a year now. My approach from the get-go has been to build a high-quality infrastructure of reusable components. I am at a point where I am able to launch new apps within 1-2 months, and copy-cat my existing apps (but different niche) apps within 2 weeks give or take.

Because I am a developer, I've had quite a few pitfalls on the marketing side. It took time to learn what actually moves the needle - and making a beautiful onboarding flow or adding xyz feature often is not it. So for the last month I've been more heavily focussed on marketing efforts. Specifically I am interested in organic social media marketing (at moderate scale).

I have a few apps under my belt, and am about to release a new one.

The existing apps have all been in quite saturated markets, and as such user acquisition has been harder than hoped. For this one I am more hopeful, as it's the first app I am building that has some arbitrage opportunity.

The Journey
I am planning to focus the journey mostly on the marketing side of things for this new app. I am happy to answer questions / share about other aspects as well, of course. But for me, the main area I want to grow in (and hold myself accountable in) is marketing.

I've got some experience and success with TikTok (1M+ views - with the caveat of poor click-through) and not much with Youtube Shorts and Instagram. The hypothesis is that for this app the click-through should be stronger, because the social assets will directly market what the app does.

The app hopefully will release in December still, but marketing has already started.

.. some more info

How will you monetize the apps?
- In-app subscriptions

What ad networks are you going to use?

- Apple Search Ads
- ASO
- Organic TikTok, IG, YTS marketing
- Looking to learn more about Facebook Marketing (but very noob)

How do you make the apps?
- Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, AWS, GCP, Javascript, Typescript

Will you use or do any Blackhat techniques/apps?
Predominantly whitehat

...

Please keep in mind: I don't want to make any apps or my niches public on here. I know many guys (especially in the app business) are copying, using some blackhat techniques or trying to damage/report each other. I want to prevent this from happening. Beyond that I am an open book :)

I am on the same journey myself - best of luck with yours op

Good luck, wish you the best with your journey
