I've read about this on Google many times, but I still haven't fully understood the concept of intent. What is the importance of intent in SEO?

Simple definition of the word will give you an idea.

intent = determination to do something

What do people performing the search want to do?

Do they want to learn something, buy something or just have fun etc.?

Importance of this for search engines lies in the way they present the search results.

Let's say you search for information about a health issue because you think you might have it. And search engine presents you only with silly videos and direct product pages.

You will not be a happy searcher.

This guide by @splishsplash will give more details and clarity:

You're the reason why the SEO industry is broken.

You have an SEO agency site, with testimonials saying

"His professionalism in delivering top-notch SEO results was outstanding"
"His deep understanding of SEO"

But, you're here, asking how to rank your site?

Maybe, instead of starting an SEO agency with fake testimonials, you actually learn what the hell you're doing first and build some of your own projects, and then you can leverage that knowledge to help others.

Because as it stands, you're basically just being a scammer here. You're going to take people's money to "rank their site", when you clearly don't know anything about SEO.

Shame on you.

Everyone gets what they deserve

In SEO, intent means understanding what a user really wants when they type a search query. Google tries to show the most helpful results based on whether the person wants information, is looking to buy something, or just wants to visit a specific website. Recognizing the intent behind keywords is important because it helps you create content that matches what people are actually searching for. When you meet the user's intent, your page is more likely to rank higher, attract the right visitors, and improve overall engagement.
