Please don't create a new account to circumvent warnings or a history of warnings.

The point, when active, only affect your ability to start a marketplace thread. Once they expire, they'll pretty much only be used by our system to apply a higher tiered warning; that is to say, the next time you receive a similar warning, it'll come with more points and last longer. If you ever apply to become a moderator, your warning history will also be taken into account. Other than that, they'll also be taken into account if your account is ever reviewed for a Jr. Executive VIP or Executive VIP nomination; assuming you also have an active Jr. VIP membership.
It will not affect your ability to respond to any threads.

Validly issued warnings won't be removed from your profile.

After you reach the 15 post requirement, the system may take some time to update your permissions.

2.0 Update! ​

If you want to start a direct message, you need to have at least 15 posts, otherwise you will not see the option to start a new direct message. Make sure your posts are good quality and do not make short, spammy or low-quality posts just to boost your post count - these posts will be deleted and your account may be banned.

When you reach 15 posts, you will see a yellow button appear at the top of your inbox with "Start Direct Message" - this allows you to send a message to another member.

You will also see the option to 'Start direct message' in the pop up window when you click on another user's name.

Do not start direct messages promoting your site or services or asking for things - this is against the rules and may lead to your account being banned.

That is correct... it is posts in general with the exception of the lounge as those posts do not count towards your message count.
