Most cheapest method to start a blog

Hey! If you're just starting out and don't want to spend much, go for GitHub Pages or WordPress.com (the free plan). Both are super cheap (basically free) and perfect for a simple blog. GitHub Pages is great for programmers since you can host it directly from your repo. You can upgrade later if you decide to scale!

I'm a programmer and I want to start a blog about the programming.
IMO your niche is pretty hard and competitive and when the niche is competitive you need a lot of budget.

i would suggest you, better try to make content on yt shorts or tiktok about pragramming tutorial, because you get faster views here

and nowdays, more and more people interested in programming, from there you can try promoting your detail courses, affiliate, etc

1. Use WordPress
2. Buy a domain name that is less than $15/year

plenty options are there buddy, start with tier 2 blogs ( Blogspot, medium, tumble, etc), and for specific names & some security reason try to find from cheap domain provider like Namecheap, Namesilo, etc

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.
I'm not sure if I'm good with content creation on the yt because I have never done that before and I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to show me face in videos.

Also, I'll have to learn some video editing and invest in a good HQ mic and stuff. Right?

I was thinking why no one suggested medium until now bit here we go.
Also, I think it's easy to get ranked on google if I write on medium. Am I right?

I love the way you phrased your question.

Not only does it have to be the cheapest, but it has to be the "most cheapest."

I read this really as a question of saving both time and money.

The cheapest method to start a blog is going to be very different from the most cheapest method to start a blog that actually makes money.

Let's be clear.

Thanks to AI, it's so easy to create a blog nowadays.

You have to have the right tools.

You need an SEO tool to find the keywords in your niche.

You need to have a virtual assistant to find the top websites in your niche and reverse-engineer their keywords.

You need AI tools to generate content.

And if you put all of this together and you have an auto-publishing system spitting content onto your WordPress blog, you're good to go.

That is the most cheapest method to start a blog.

It's not a completely unintelligent or ill-advised way to start one because you're saving a lot of time, you're saving a lot of money, and there's a good chance that you will get traffic because this is based on SEO research.

Remember, you filter these through an SEO keyword tool, and you have a virtual assistant that makes judgment calls as to which keywords to target and which articles that trigger the keyword to replicate with AI.

So far so good, right?

Here's the problem: Google has cracked down on AI.

The most cheapest method isn't going to be as cheap as before, but the inputs are absolutely necessary.

I'm talking about having flesh-and-blood human beings edit your content so the facts are correct and most importantly, present the content in an engaging way.

This can mean rewriting headings.

This can mean rewriting certain bits and pieces to make sure that the content all flows into each other.

This way, when you're clicking deeper and deeper into the guts of a website, the stuff that you read before gets you excited about the stuff that you're reading now, which then has a natural relationship in terms of themes and contexts with the stuff that you've read before.

I've just laid out the internal linking strategy of your site, and if you pull this off well, there might be enough user engagement on your site for your blog to maximize the value of whatever traffic Google sends it.

That's how you make money.

You don't make money when you spend close to zero coming up with a massive site with lots of articles.

Anybody with the right tools can do that, and being able to do this alone doesn't guarantee that you'll be making money.

What would increase your chances of earning solid revenue with your website is when you make sure that the content you offer, no matter how you generate it, actually delivers the experience that your readers expect.

Hats off!

Have no more words to express my feelings except "Hats off".
You have been very straight and honest in your answer and you took time to write that long explanation for me.
Bundles of thanks for that.

Hello BHW community,
I have been thinking to start a blog since a log time.
I'm a programmer and I want to start a blog about the programming.

My aim is not to monitze the blog yet or get a lot of traffic etc to my blog but I just wanna start it.
Since, I'm not planning on writing it daily and not planning to make money out of it so I don't wanna spend much on it.
I want to know the cheapest possible option for me.

Thanks a lot.
You should have the plan from start that you have to earn from the blog. If you are doing it as hobby, you can do that on a blogspot blog itself that is 100% free to setup.

Medium is the best platform for blogging currently among all the free ones just because it ranks and drives organic traffic easily.

Purchase a domain.
Goto Host koala get their cheapest 5$/Year hosting plan.
Then Setup your WordPress website and start blogging there with your own domain.

Personally, as a programmer I would setup my own website and also a medium blog.
Showcase my portfolio on website and link the blog to medium blog.
Also, as programmer you should have a GitHub profile & maybe a LinkedIn too.

I have my github account and yeah it's a good idea to have a website for portfolio and a link to the medium blog.
Thanks sir!

I remember reading years ago that your own domain was the best thing because you owned it, and it was not someone else's property. Then went and bought around 100 domains most of which got nowhere and discarded after a few years. It was a waste of money. If I had used blogger, it would have been much better as it was 1) free, and 2) back in the day Google used to give it preference when it came to ranking. People have good intentions thinking "long term" but often many projects go nowhere.

Seems like medium is better than blogger nowadays. Thanks!
All you need is $35-$45 to get started!
  • Hosting: $25 p/year (Namecheap)
  • Domain: $10-$15 p/year (for a .com one)
These are optional but it will surely help speed up the process:
  • AI Writing tool: <$20 p/month
  • Keyword Research Tool: You can get SEMRush/Ahrefs through a groupby for <$15 p/month
Thanks sir!
Well stop overthinking and just start ,the sooner the better
You just need a 10$ domain and a host that it costing like 5$ per month
The sooner the better!

I would recommend to go with the wordpress because blogspot don't give much customization options and once you start loving blogging then you will obviously want to scale it up, customize and even host it on your own domain, which are easy with the wordpress. And initially it will also cost you nothing.
And if you want audience too along with the blog updating functionality then you can consider medium and linkedIn Pulse etc. Using your social media along with the blogging will help you reach more audience.

Writing a blog on programming topics i would say rather than thinking of writing one blog that is a 100 dollars in 2 weeks write 5 , 10 dollar blogs in that specific period of time would get more traffic.

Get your blog or website up for free by using weebly.com or medium.com ,its simple to get started, If you're looking for a custom domain check out porkbun.com or dynadot.com for some super affordable options. It’s quick and cheap and gets you online in no time.

For a simple and cheap way to start a blog, you can use free platforms like GitHub Pages with Jekyll, ideal for programmers, or WordPress.com for an easy setup with no cost. Blogger and Medium are also good free options, though with limited customization. If you want more control, you can go for low-cost hosting providers like Namecheap or Hostinger, and install WordPress.org for a small monthly fee. All these options allow you to start your blog without spending much. Hope you well

Use wordpress dot com , connect with your custom domain. The SEO and website will be ready

Github pages with Jekyll seems very interesting to me. I just read about how to setup the site with Jekyll on Github pages and it's seems reliable.
Also, other options are good as well like medium blogger. Thank you for taking the time to write.

You want to start the blog without the aim to make money? You should start on blogspot then. It is completely free to use. But there can be ranking issues.
