What SEO practice DERANKED your web page on Google Search?

I have noticed some good faith SEO practices that sometimes lead to ranking loses (when it shouldn't).

I know there are Googlers on this forum, hopefully they can take a leaf from this thread and fix their algo.

So, I will start.

Adding only an image to an already existing page without changing around text leads to deranking to few positions lower 100% of the time no exceptions. However, there are real world scenarios that could require that change.

- Adding / removing tags from a ranked page.

- modifying the page structure. Like converting a listicle to a longform article etc

- buying spammy backlinks

- creating too many duplicate internal links to a page. Like having multiple category pages and an article appearing in several of them.

Tbh, I think Google should stop penalizing page modifications.

True. Ig they do that because they think you're trying to game theoe algorithms.

This is crazy. Google should fix up.
