Rankings dropped after several backlinks

Hello there.

I have bought some guest posts with a reasonable price. They are all really old local blogging websites. However, their spam score is not ideal. From about 5 to 20 percent!

Now that the backlinks are indexed, my rankings are dropped.
.
For one keyword from 4 to 15, another from 2 to 4, another from 2 to 10, etc. And these are my exact targeted keywords by the way.

Therefore, I suppose these drops are because of the new backlinks. Is disavowing these backlinks going to improve the rankings? Would it be beneficial to disavow these links? Or Should I think about getting new quality links for these keywords?

if you sure your ranking down by through backlinks its beneficial if you disavow through links

and after that build some quality backlinks related to your niche its help to you rank back

If the downfall is observed recently then also consider that there may be Google's core update behind this. And if it's a core update then it is not necessary that the recently earned backlinks are wrong or any content of your website is wrong, it could also be other's content getting rewarded now so just wait for a while.

Simply disavowing those would reverse the damage, but I would also suggest you to find some good quality backlinks, there's many sellers here doing free review copies as well, so maybe just a few links could make a positive impact

you mean exact match anchors?? Because if that's true, it would explain your ranking loss. Abusing anchor texts is one of the most surefire ways of having your site penalized, and it's a mistake most newbies do (even I forget and do this mistake occasionally and I've been in this industry for 16 years lol)

The good thing, however, is that it's also one of the easiest things to fix. Just contact the link seller and ask him nicely to replace your exact match anchors with branded terms (especially important for links that point to your homepage), or with generic terms if you're pointing to inner pages...

Keep only 1-10% of your anchors as exact match, and the rest of them should be branded, naked URLs, or generic ones. For example, if you got 10 links, keep 0-2 of them as exact match anchors, if you've gotten 20 links keep 0-4 as exact match anchors, etc...

Each page that you link to should ALWAYS have mixed anchor texts, with the exact match anchors (the most powerful of them for ranking, but also the most dangerous ones) being kept under 10% like I said, but preferably around 4-6% (at least that's what I always aim for, for extra safety)...

if they're bad, probably yes! But you might have screwed the anchors, first fix the anchors and the results should be seen after google crawls these links again. If the anchors are already fine, then probably the links are bad indeed, as otherwise I don't see what could have caused the drop...

spam score is garbage metric, ignore it! The links could have 100% SS and still give you amazing boost, I've seen it happen more than once, SS is just a useless metric invented by MOZ that google disregards

It's not suddenly drop once you built new backlinks

So rework with the anchor text you have used for the post, because Keywords play a vital role in the rankings

If the backlinks metrics are dropped contact the seller to replace

For rankings, the main thing is your Keyword choice and the keyword placements

Focus on all the backlinks you made for the site and how the keyword positions changes then you find a solution

Thank you for your offer. I will try to fix the anchors accordingly and wait for results. Also, the SS point was actually a great one.

Based on what I see in other websites, this new core update is confusing a lot of people. Most of a rankings have been dancing weirdly in the past few days. So, I can't figure out correctly the exact impact of my new links.

From experience, it's normal for my site to drop at first when I build decent links. Then it comes back stronger.

First of all you have to ensure that your ranking are down for bad backlinks. The you can disavow them also you can create some new High quality links like PR links. I hope that will works for you.

So if you acquire a spicy backlink then Google could lower your rank in the SERPS temporarily just to see if you bought and/or built the link.

i.e If you're on page 2 and you suddenly jump to page 3,4,5 etc after building or buying the backlink.

If you remove the link during this dropping phase, it seems Google punishes you by lowering your rank permanently as they now know that you've been building/buying backlinks.

At least, this is my interpretation of what Tom said here:

Rankings dance when you build links. This is normal.

You cant “target” keywords with links btw. Thats not how it works.

Using exact match anchors just makes it more likely your site will have problems down the line. They are not hugely natural and a good way for the algorithm to detect paid links/unnatural links.

You can wait for some more time and it may be a Google dance. Also, don't overdo with the exact match anchors. Use more long tail keywords, brand, naked, and generic anchors to diversify the anchor profile.

That's actually very clever of Google! Thankfully I didn't disavow the links. I'm waiting for this update to end to see where would be my positions and what should I do next?

The point is I'm not sure if really paid links are problematic. My competitors always get paid links with exact anchors and they good positive results. I think google still respects paid links from high authority websites. Although, I'm not going to use exact anchors anymore.
