yes you are right with redirecting customers to another store, customers thinking it a scam is a issue. For this its best to use cloaking plugin which does all this redirection at the backend and on frontend customer checkout on the same site.

From my experience, 90% of my customers are 60+ in age and I haven't had any complain about this looking scammy.

cloaking works by having 2 sites one legit one and one your high risk site, you get order on your high risk site but to the processor the order is submitted through the legit site which shows to the processor that products on your legit site are selling. This is what cloaking is in-short.......

Have you implemented google analytic on your website? With this you can know where your traffic is coming from
