Hey..

Can someone tell me please:
How these 2 in terms of managing domains?

Their pricing is ok + Free private whois...

Any experience with these?

Thanks.

Theres a thread somewhere in here warning to stay away from 1 and 1. Ive used them before and never had issues, but others have had a nightmare of a time. I never heard of the other one though.

1and1 blows dead bear.

I've heard the name netfirms but can't recall anything specific about them (damned crappy short-term memory). For some reason they sound fishy to me, I just can't remember why.

NEVER use 1and1 EVER.

...nothing wrong with netfirms though (I've got 18 domains with them)

I use 1and1 for my domains and I host them with hostgator.
Never had any problems with them. Its very easy to change the forward and it goes thru quickly.

Would love some help because my domains' status still says "Waiting for approval". Contacted them and they said it was due to an error but that the error was fixed but to expedite it I should call them. :wtf:

Would you share why 1And1 is not good choice? I am in the middle of transferring from godaddy to 1and1. I will think twice then. Lucky I browsed and checked it first before moving them forward.

I've used 1and1 for about 3 years now and have 30+ domains hosted with them. Zero issues and their support is great should you need
it.

How long do your domains say "waiting for approval" after you purchase them? That seems to be my issue now...

I saw a ton of fresh complaints about them on a web hosting forum the other day. I didn't read any of the details but it looked like they've had a lot of issues lately.

Here's one article I just saw from January:

It's usually about 10 - 12 hours... I use them and have little issues with them.

Netfirms were doing dollar domains a while back which someone kindly posted on here. You enter the term "DOLLARDOMAIN", it still gets you a reduced domain(not sure how much at the moment) and comes with free "whois".
I have registered about 30 domains with them and when the dollar domain thing was posted I remember people saying good things about Netfirms or I wouldn't have used them.
If you use the search on here for "dollardomains netfirms" you should find it.
HTH

That sounds like weak registrar->registry communications. One of the "big" TLD's or a ccTLD?

I wait from 2 to 8 hours..

I got my order email on Thursday, and it still says "waiting for approval".

Weird thing is, I didn't get my "invoice" email (which came out to 0.00) until today, Saturday, 2 days after I got my order confirmation email. Is this similar to what you guys experienced?

Also, did you guys have to call them to contact them via phone for the "authentication process" before your domain's status went from "waiting for approval" to "ready"?

I really don't know. I used 1and1. Seems like others like basstracker and traveller aren't having issues like I am. Which is weird because I used legitimate contact details.

I registered 2 domains within the last week and I could not believe it when they were up and running about 3-4 hours later.

Did you use paypal or your cc? Also, did you use the free domain for the first year offer when registering?

Ah found that 1and1 thread on a web host board....

http://www.namepros.com/web-hosting-discussion/640466-1-and-1-bash-thread.html

I see at least one person in that thread talking about it taking hours to get "approval" on registering a domain...which is really odd - I've dealt with a number of registrars and rarely had any sort of delay like that.

Exactly. I haven't waited just hours though - I've waited days! This is getting a little ridiculous I think...
