Recently my friends have been hacked and accounts have been taken over. Facebook and Instagram by some Nigerians. My question is how do they do it? They somehow change your email and phone number and add theirs for 2fa. Thanks in advance.

most likely his cookies or browser session was hijacked. then from there on it's just as simple as adding a different email and a new password to takeover/hack Instagram account

I'm just curious coz recently I've been getting these complaints from friends who want me to assist them in getting back their accounts. Some are successful while others don't get successful.

if they can hijack the cookie/browser session 2fa can't do anything. once you are in the account it's pretty easy changing stuff up
even if changing something might requires 2fa I know there were if few open API that didn't although it's good but 2fa is not the end all be all and even if it was most people don't have it

Maybe your friend logged into some dark web and had his password stolen

most likely they sent an attractive message with link at the end your friend visited and they were able to steal his info
sometimes will ask you to login in a fake facebook page once you enter the info it goes to them

It may be because your device has opened a link attached to a botnet. Hackers will easily track and hack your account

They are using the same password everywhere and when a website database get leaked they will just try to same email and password on other websites

Please check your computer software, maybe a bad person has installed a bot on your computer.

Or maybe you visited the dark web, causing your information to be stolen.
