I just saw on the internet that

YouTube is lowering the barrier to be eligible for its monetization program​

The new conditions to be qualified for the partner program are:

• Having 500 subscribers;
• 3 public uploads in the last 90 days;
• and either 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.

What do you guys think about this change?

They are trying to compete, which is a very good thing. They were a monopoly a few years ago and now they are being threatened by Tiktok, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

The real monetization is still 1000 subs and 4K watch hours or 10M shorts views. The 500 subs and 3K watch hours is YPP Lite, it is not real monetization, you won't earn from ad revenue with that, you will only get access to tipping tools like Super Thanks, Super Chat, and Super Stickers, subscription tools like channel memberships, and the ability to promote their own merch with YouTube Shopping. You still need the 1000 subs and 4K watch hours to earn from advert revenue.

It depends on where you are. If you are in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, South Korea, or Taiwan, you're good to go. The rest of the world will have it in a few months.

It's a really fascinating shift from YouTube for the creators. Nowadays, video viewing is moving to primary platforms for the purpose to gain audience, consequently we can expect more video creators as a result of these developments.

However these "Lowering Barrier For monetization" won't make a difference.

The barrier will always be the same for new people unless they do major change on how their algorithm pushes new Channels or how easy it is to get views. They should focus on that side of the coin rather than advertising this non sense "Lowering barrier" which is just bla bla...

It's good so people get more hope, but with low stats, people will be making peanuts, so that might be counter productive

But also, people could be happy they are making their first peanuts
