Video game playthrough video monetization in 2023 - Does it still work?

Hi Gurus,

Looking to start my YouTube money-making journey ASAP. I have 10+ years old channel in the video gaming niche and have roughly 800 subs and 1000 hours for the past 12 months, so it's not monetized yet.

Looking for suggestions:
1. Should I buy a monetized channel or stick to my old channel till it meets the requirement? Where to buy a monetized channel?
2. Will the game playthrough video with no commentary still work?

I can do commentary but it will slow down the content generation. And I'm looking for a new niche. What's the best sub-niche in gaming, tech, gadget, etc?

why buy it when your part way there already, spent time / money
finishing 1k subs and 3k hrs you have left. my new channel 6 months old.
this month i did 790.71k minutes watches this month.
120k total views this month. 400 new subs this month.
its not monster numbers, but it could be worse.

It seems a new channel with no existing fanbase will be very tough.

The gaming niche is very competitive, especially if you are doing no commentary videos.
You'll either need to post gameplay videos at a very fast pace, or make full game walkthroughs (4-XX hours video), there are many videos from different games with a very low quality, so posting a better quality gameplay could do the trick.

Growing a gaming channel takes time and you'll need to invest a lot of time into playing new games and editing / rendering videos.

If you are a gamer and you love doing this, might want to look at the "Trophy hunting" niche which is starting to pop off on youtube and people who do this get decent numbers, so might be worth trying that.

Tech review is a hard one as well, to stand out you'll need to get all the hot stuff as soon as it launches which can drain your pockets real quick at the beginning, after a while sponsorships start to come in and companies start sending you stuff for reviews (00% of the time you'll have to return it though)
