I'm dropping my addiction.

There is a lot of added sugar in processed food. You should remove also processed food and buy food directly from farmer.

Good job man, did this before when i tried Keto, quit few months ago.
also, have you thought about starting this gradually ?

I enjoy a huge steak more than its side potatoes or a burger.
It may sound stupid, but a well-made burger works very well without the bun, and cauliflower pizza is surprisingly good. You should never be hungry when dieting.
I used to try many different alternatives to bread, but I couldn't find any recipes that really tasted good. The closest I got was almond bread which was too sweet for me and flax seed bread that tasted like a sugarless cake..
I enjoy steak so much as well. The problem is afterwards I crave sweets like later the evening. I think it's related to dopamine. Like I feel very refreshed and energized when I eat chocolate or some sweet cake.
That effect I couldn't get with any natural food. Except from water melon and some peaches which again have high amount of fructose.

Wish you all the best, I personally dropped sugar for 5 months. Once I ate 1 sweet and could not stop haha. Good luck bro

Watermelons, by the way, are among the fruits with the lowest amount of fructose, together with pears.
Lemon is full of it, as well as grapes and cherries.

After a few days, the body remembers how to sate from proteins and then the carvings are gone.

Good luck man! As someone who has read a hilarious amount of nutritionist books, check out Frank Suarez "The Power of Your Metabolism", really good information to drop sugar.
I had an obese buddy who couldn't go without eating sugar longer than 2-3 hours without feeling bad and getting angry. He even took a sugar jar from my hands when I was trying to help him out, only to chug it down (literally).
I've helped him loose over 20 kgs over time, no complaints about his diet whatsoever, since it's a flexible, calorie, and macro-tracked diet, he can eat pretty much anything he'd like as long as it isn't extremely unhealthy.
He's now able to eat sugar like a normal person lol. The initial week will be the hardest after that, the urge will reduce over time, just don't give up. Sugar and cocaine basically affect the same neuronal regions and create the same cycle when your blood's low on them. Personally, I've never gotten hooked to sugar but my buddy says it's as hard as it's leaving the other one.

Does your meal plan include some carbs?

dark chocolate is the smallest part of the problem, it has very small amount of sugar(if it's really dark one). the sodas on other hand is compleatly different story.
With heavy caffeine tolerance, I tried eatng one of these (100g, 85% cocoa content, at once) and topped it with an energy drink. It felt like some fucking other world experience. But I repeat the experiment and it didn't feel that crazy next time though.

For some reason, it digests like shit, but has slow-release caffeine in it plus a lot of some stuff. It has phenethylamine in it that doesn't cross the brain-blood barrier. For some reason feels better than caffeine on its own. :D Cocoa is a drug, dude.

Sugar is awesome if used sparingly and in small quantities, in particular when you work super hard and your brain is depleted of glucose. These 150 - 250g sugar binges serve no good purpose (it's like $1 here). But they helped me greatly in my depression to go through it. I got 7 meds to try, of which three work well and life feels good man.

I haven't used sugar for years now. It's that simple! After a while, bitter coffee and bitter tea will seem like the best thing in the world, and you'll be disgusted to drink them with sugar.

What doesn't though. Cocaine addiction is 5 years of life left. On sugar you will survive 50+. My grandma is 80, she ate sugar all her life and still no cancer.
I thought I was addicted to sugar and it ended up being a severe magnesium deficiency. I started taking more magnesium and my sugar cravings gradually disappeared. I'm not a doctor, so maybe talk to one before you start supplementing with magnesium. You should also look into the Ancient Minerals magnesium spray. That's what I use...
Magnesium deficiency sucks, but doesn't solve all the problems. Daily citrate will solve most problems.

For instance, if you have some thoughts of death, panic attacks, bad periods without reaason and so on, that's a sign there might be some underlying mental health condition.

I found fucking heavy depression in myself that I have no courage to fight with and I will take every single supplement and medication that I am prescribed (and that works, of coruse).

Day 6, still no sugar.

Started slowly dropping carbs to a minimum as well.

@lucky.sparks first time I was on this in 2017, in few months weight loose from 110kg to 90kg. Then I came back to eating carbs ;/ gained to 126kg xD

--------------------
Now I started 3 weeks ago, with 126kg weight, now after 3 weeks 119kg, going back to my 90kg. I will not keep it forever, but this time I will come back to carbs very smooth and gentle, not like in 2017 xD
whoaaaa, 130kg, absolute unit. :D but yeah, the boomerang effect is something that needs to be taken into account when going this path.

Are you gonna eat rice, potatoes, white bread, pizza, burger, corn?
There are same as sugar more or less. They all have high glycemic index (or cabs).
No, they are all high in carbs and I will stick for a no-carb diet called keto.

Cool man. I've actually done something similar when it comes to withdrawing from caffeine. Till Dec 2022 i was drinking 2 1,5 Litres of Coca Cola Light every day + 2 Caffeines. Already finished cutting out the 3 L of daily coke light out of my life since February. Being addicted to anything (Sugar, Caffeine etc.) sucks ass and you only know it once you go into the withdrawal of it.

Interested in this too. Are you only cutting sugar or carbs completely? Also, are you doing any cardio?
3L coke, even if light, is just too much, your decision is smart. I dont think I'm addiccted to caffeine tho, always when I have enough sleep and not abused it, I have no problems going w/o it the next day. I've fixed this by not taking caffeine after 12 PM because after 8-12 hours only 50% of the caffeine has left your system. If I abuse it and drink it too late, I have bad sleep and the next day I crave coffee again to be able to function.

I'm cutting sugar and 90% of carbs, minimal cardio, I hate cardio, better prefer strength training.

Be aware of the milk you put in your latte. Low-fat milk often has white sugar added to them. In israel, there are some heavy creams that go well in coffee, but I have no idea what you might have available where you're from.
Good thinking, switched to black only today, thank you!

I went on a low carb diet for a year. But I was let's say on vacation. Now that I'm back to work, I really struggle to keep my mood on point and find it hard to deal with the abstinence from taking something relieving like an exciting meal or sweets. I feel like when I don't take sweets my energy and mood are not the best.

I feel like when I take meals thar I crave I feel fulfilled and excited about life and work harder, unlike when I'm on a diet, I'm like very normal ordinary life mode. Not very excited to do the work.

How do you guys deal with that?
You should try to find enjoyment in different activities, I have the same problem as you and it probably comes from some sort of level of depression/burnout. I can only advise finding professional help in this matter, no need for anything fancy, few therapy sessions could help you to understand what is going on. Food is just a fuel, we shouldn't find comfort in it.

Why would you stop fruits? This is the first time I hear someone says fruits are bad for health. This is bs I can't agree with!

As for the sugar in any other form different from natural yes, we must stop it asap.
Can you quote me on "fruits are bad for health"? ;)

I enjoy a huge steak more than its side potatoes or a burger.

The last time I tried low-carb stuff was about 3 years ago, I did find a recipe for low-carb pizza, it was tricky to make but oooooh boi the end result was superb haha :)

Coca cola and vapes are my biggest addictions
probably smash about 3-4 cans of coke a day and those disposable vapes one a week
Both are incredibly bad for health, try to decrease at least the coke.

i switched to brown sugar in my coffee, I feel like i have much less, yet I still get a nice sweeter taste. Not sure why we have white sugar when its refined I think, whatever that means? they add white colouring? lol
Have no idea but I think both are not very good for you in terms of health benefits. of course if the coffee is the only place you use it, it's not that bad. But if you take sodas on top of that, other sweets, etc etc, it adds up quite fast.

I did try it once for two months, the effects were great. But you need a strong mental power to continue it. Because sugar is in everything.Hope you can keep longer than me and reach your goal of sugar detox.
Join in! start tomorrow and let's keep each other accountable!

I have heard too many times about the bad effects of sugar. I tried to avoid this, but I can't. I hope you will do it. Pray for me to drop my addiction to it.
Why wouldn't you join in too? let's start tomorrow and let's keep each other accountable haha :)

Nice one mate. It was extremely horrible for the first few days due to electrolyte dumping.

My progression was something like: low carb -> ketogenic -> carnivore. Never looked back ;)

A keto/carnivore diet changed my life ngl.
Good thinking! You gave me a great idea, will pick up sports drinks which are high on electrolytes, thank you!!

Well, good luck man, I am also trying to quit sugar. It's really hard when you're addicted to it, but with enough discipline anything is possible.
As I suggested above, join the battle ;)

With the amount of infection in my mouth I've been warned not to! :weep:
It was a regular topic of conversation from me on the forum around 2020..

Accenture are looking for digital marketers or strategists - when I'm on 1k a month I can get them for 10% up-front and then pay installments and we can look at eachothers teeth in Turkey for days!

I love this thread because your health journey is inspiring me too! I too struggle with sugar addiction, everytime i stop sugar and go carnivore after about 10h or so my cravings get so powerful that i impulse order trash food from uber eats/doordash :weep:
Join me and post your daily progress here. It sounds like you should try to limit your ability to order things, delete those apps and try to make healthy food available to you for a couple of days, e.g. make a larger amount of meals premade, it will help you to get off the trash food and when its done you can move further and cancel sugars/sweets and so on. How much stress you currently have in your daily life?

He was a really nice guy.Anyways..............
keeping this post so that i can edit in the future
Forum will not allow you to edit your posts in about 30 minutes or so ;)

I was also thinking the same. Sugar is not good for sure but fruits are natural substances.
I'm going into keto, which means no sugar at all, including one that is in fruits.

I do use B6 and other groups, probably that is why I do not have super hard cravings this time quitting sugar.

Life is not worth without a sweetener for me.

Personally i find everything tastes disgusting without a sweetener, other than water. Water is delish.
You can keep using sweeteners but do it in a way that is good for you, e.g. check stevia it's sweeter than sugar, even looks the same but it's way healthier than sugar itself.

Good for you brother.

I am 60 days clean and am starting to feel so much better.

I still crave it but the withdrawals are not as bad as the first 30 days.

For me, I only had the cravings at night time after I settle in.

I needed the dopamine/opioid hit as a reward each night.

But what I noticed was that it was tied to my anxiety.

When I work, I do so at such a frenzy that I needed the sugar to relax and calm down from the day in the same way people smoke or drink alcohol to relax.

So what I did was slow down my pace of work and focus on my breath so that I am not wound up at the end of the day craving a "substance" to relax me.
Amazing! Sounds like you are highly aware and self-cautious.

my plan atm is to avoid adding sugar on tea, coffee, drinks and foods,i started by reducing the amount every day until i removed it completely, but i cheat from time to time, i get back quickley to my diet, since by avoiding sugar i feel better, i can think clearely, and my gut never disturb me ... haha
That's great start and can highly impact your life quality!

Nice going. I'm also on zero carb because I was addicted to icecream lol.
How about steak?
The steaks are great!

I've read that if you are above 4-6 cups a day you might develop further heart problems in the future (ofc this number varies from person to person). I am simply trying to quit because i hate being physically addicted to anything. I dont think there is anything wrong with drinking coffee as long as you are not going nuts with it.
4-6 cups is really a lot, I would worry more about sleep problems because of this, with that amount of caffeine my night sleep is very distracted and low quality.

Good luck with your journey mate. I want to quit cigarettes but I couldn't do this yet.
Any tip will be appreciated.

I changed to brown sugar in my espresso, I feel like I have significantly less, yet I actually get a pleasant better taste. Not certain why we have white sugar when its refined I think, whatever that implies? they add white shading? lol

I've been on a "No soda or junk food" diet since the beginning of this month. I feel a lot more healthy.

Good luck Mate ! :)

Congratulations! you will see a lot of difference and i mean it in a good way. Right now, you have chosen to live a healthy life so kudos for that.

Yes, it's the snow. But not the one you would think of first.

sugar.jpg

From tomorrow, there is no sugar in my life.

And by none, it means no food or drinks that contain any kind of sugar, even fructose(fruits, some vegetables).

I did this once in past so I kinda know what withdraws I will have in two days. My hands will shake and I will want to kill somebody.

Sounds crazy eh? But that's how much we are addicted to this stuff. If you think you are not, try to go for 4 days w/o any sugar/sweets/fruits.

Now enjoying my last coffee with real sugar as artificial sweeteners make it taste like shit.

If you are thinking of improving your health, I suggest trying this, it's a bit annoying as you constantly need to read food labels to avoid something that has sugar in it but end result is superb.

My goal is to go into ketosis to lose some winter protection layer I've gained last year.
i did keto a few years ago and the weight you lose is incredible. you also feel full of energy and get unexpected erections like you are 15 again. in 4 months i was on the verge of becoming a new person (physically speaking), but i started feeling a, idk how to say it, a constant bothersome sensation on my left side, like someone was gently poking a finger on me there. and i got paranoid that i was screwing something in my body and left keto.
i am thinking of starting keto again but guided by a nutritionist, to avoid weird stuff like that.
