Can I get my upwork account unbanned?

I'm a web developer and I used upwork to make decent money. Got top rated and had many good reviews.

Got lazy, let a dude use my account and he promised to give me % of the money he made. Worked well for almost 2 months and I got banned. I'm guessing they detected he's from a different continent or something. Tried to deny it with support, but they didn't even let me make my case. I got the "we made a request to the team handling this" multiple times.

This was 4-5 years ago. Of course, I can't create another account in my name. Do you guys think it's possible to get back that account?

only person who can answer that is the CSR agent your ticket goes to when you open one on upwork.
i wouldn't be optimistic. generally bans are lifetime. you already appealed and they made their decision to uphold the ban.
try your luck w/ new account and hope they aren't cross referencing your personal data to tie it to the old account. you ever know, you may get away with it. you are counting on them to have 5y+ of records up to date.
i wouldnt even try to re-open that ticket. it may jog their memory and make them look at you deeper. make another account under slightly different name but same SSN. if you get banned then just move on.
another option is buying an upwork account on the usual marketplaces.

Grr that is so sad. I think your best bet would be to contact them somehow again (don’t login.. just use public contact form if available), explain them everything (be honest with what happened) and request them to reconsider you. It works more often than not.

Otherwise, fck upwork because it is a leech anyway (takes a huge cut from your hard earned money.. for nothing). Bhw marketplace can make you some decent cash and you don’t have to pay them a penny lol (except for that $30/yr fee which is peanuts).

upwork isn't the only game in town. try your luck on their competitors
you can offer services on bhw too however i think you need jr-vip subscription

I think 4-5 years is a little too far gone at this point. They likely already deleted all the data associated with that account which in your case may be a silver lining.

As @Lemmel has pointed out, do try to create a new account. In many platforms, a new account in the same name does get created AFTER many years have lapsed since the first account got suspended.

From my experience, the number of projects posted is the best on upwork. I think the only one that comes close is freelancer.com, but that place is a little pay to win.

True but that's the nature of the game. Sometimes you just have to start from scratch again after a particularly bad setback.
