Backlinks won’t matter- google

over the years, i've learned that executives in the marketing space will come out with hit pieces like this in an attempt to slow down competition. Google screwed themselves when they invented their algorithm. Obviously, they couldn't have ever predicted things would be the way it is today. None the less, theirs literally nothing Google can ever and will ever do to change their system. All they can do is run sweeps i.e "updates" on their servers #girraffesarentvegan

Because in the New World internet, every approved answer is already known and every search is met with a curated result designed to match allowable accessible content. It may not be a perfect system but it will perfectly control what you are allowed to see and therefore think.

Quite clear to anyone that really understands SEO that backlinks have already over the last couple of years lost value in terms of the ranking algo. Honestly, if anyone is surprised by this, then they probably should not be in SEO to begin with. This is nothing new, and always how Google adjusts when there is clear manipulation of a ranking factor. Remember, comments spam used to work at one point, now comments spam links are absolutely without a shadow of a doubt completely useless.

Especially with the insights that Google has regarding user behaviour, I don't believe they need to heavily rely on links as an indication of authority for a page. With how much they have been harping on "core web vitals" and other UX related metrics, it's quite clear where Google and their algo is heading.

If you think Google is lying about links meaning less in terms of ranking factor, then you clearly haven't been doing SEO for the past two to three years.

Believe Google or not, but if you are a link builder or link broker by trade, then I would start looking for a different way to generate an income sooner rather than later.

Based on what you advertise in your signature, your response to this is not surprising at all. In fact, I'm sure if you look at all the replies on this thread, you will notice that the majority of people claiming that Google is lying about devaluing links in their algo would be people that sell links.

If you've been reading my replies on this forum you would know how anti-google I am, I'm one of google's biggest haters so you can bet your ass that I won't pass a chance to bash them whenever given the chance. And they do give me a lot of chances with their constant misinforming, what I've said has absolutely nothing to do with my signature.

Besides, backlinks do matter, whether or not we like it or agree with it, so my sarcasm was actually justified

Meta Keyword tags are to date used (even though Google publicly mentioned that they are depreciated), but still, to an extent, they just work.

Over 15 years ago, Google said backlinks are not everything! I did not believe this, and the first update of my new site was Bomb 8/10, and the majority of other sites were 6-7.

I challenge anyone here that Google will not abandon Backlinks and their importance once and for all; yes, increasing the penalties is the solution.

In a remarkably frank sense, I, Google, officially announce the beginning of complete control of the Internet and the creation of millions of losses for sites, and there will be no excuse for Mr. Google because of the deletion of the order of the results, except that it is only personal interest.

By the way, I am not defending sellers of text links only because they can manage trade and succeed, not because some people think they are just selling links! Thousands of people have sold one million links on Fiverr for 5 dollars for many years, and they still sell 50 to 100 services for the final year. On the contrary, whoever succeeds in the link trading industry is sure that he can succeed in 100 different projects.

A simple question, I have some sites I created about two months ago, and in the past two weeks, they started showing a high score of authority in the results of the bachelor's degree of other sites.
And when I check the same site, a simple number appears after modifying / or writing again, and that number appears again.

No, actually meta keyword tags don't work do anything. There have been plenty of studies that prove this. I haven't used meta keyword tags in maybe 10 years, and I still have plenty of page 1 rankings.

Let me get this straight. You think you can sue Google for something they they explicitly say you should not do (buy links) in their webmaster guidelines, based on patents they have for their algorithm? Hahahahaha. Please let me know when you (or anyone else) sues them for this, as I would love to keep track of that court case.

This would be like a horse shoe maker suing Ford for making cars affordable enough that people started replacing horses with cars, basically almost destroying the demand for horse shoes. That is not how the world works my friend. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be for you to adapt or die.

You seem to forget what Google's objective is. Google is a website that tries to get people off their website as fast as possible, by giving them the right answers to their questions (what the user searches). Therefor, Google returns the results that satisfies the user's needs. A.K.A. meets the search intent of the user. When shitty pages get into the top ten because they manipulated the ranking factors (buy links) and a page ranks momentarily in the top 10, once users click those links and immediately bounces back to Google because they result they clicked on was crap, what kind of signals do you think that sends to Google?

As much as "SEOs" and webmasters want to complain about Google, Google would not be the most popular search engine (by far, still having more than 80% of the search market) if they kept sending people to results that were not useful.

You can cry about it as much as you want, and you can even sue Google for devaluing links if you want to. But that won't stop the fact that Google has been devaluing links for the last couple of years and continues to do so. Just like comment spam does not work in 2022, that doesn't stop people from still using comment spam to try and gain rankings. The only thing is, they can keep trying to manipulate rankings with something that doesn't work as much as they want, it won't change the fact that it doesn't work. The same is starting to apply to links. Thus, if you are a link builder, link broker or link seller, the smart thing to do would be to stop complaining about Google adapting their algo, and simply to start working on generating your income in a different way. My suggestion to you would be to become a real SEO, and stop trying to sell "SEO services" that means very little to actual SEO any more. In ten years time you can either still be complaining about Google killing links as a ranking factor, or you can simply move into a different career path. It won't change what Google is clearly doing to their algo.

If you don't like it, start relying on other search engines and see how far that gets you.

With the flood of AI in the short term, I feel like they would pump the backlinks signal a little higher. I see backlinks dropping a lot in the long term as user metrics will probably take over as their machine learning can understand if a site's content is good; currently, though it's horrendous, some of their results are just plain bad.

I don't doubt there's a future where machine learning is great, and I understand they had to make the move to start somewhere, but as of now, the SERPs are a mess, and it makes no sense to lower the value of backlinks until many years from now when their tech is much better. How long that takes? Who knows, maybe we have three years of backlinks being huge signals, or maybe 5, but not going away in a few months, so not changing any of my SOPs for a while.
