Hello Guys,

I'll keep this short and to the point.

So, last year I had an affiliate site in Weight Loss Niche.

I had a competitor who was ranking #1, before getting into this niche I did a comprehensive analysis of my competitors back links profile and thought to myself It won't be hard to outrank him. But I was wrong!

No matter what I did I was not able to outrank this guy. My site was better than him in every aspect, content, back links etc.

So, then I decided to do some reverse engineering and started trying to basically get links from all the sources / domains he has links from.

Here things get very interesting and sneaky.

Here Is What He Was Doing:-

He was using a very sneaky method to get links from extremely powerful, HIGH DA/DR Niche Relevant Forums.

He was using quote edit functions of those forums to get back links.

Basically, he would post in a old thread in the forum which already has enough DA/DR and bring it back to life. He would Multi Quote 2-3 long comments and reply very decently to them.

After waiting for few days when the thread rolled down into 4th or 5th page of the forum, he would go back and edit the post and add his link within a quote. He would blend the hyperlink colour as the other text in post. All the forums he was using had limit of many days to edit the posts.

Example OF Putting Link In quote below:-

SEO is crucial because it makes your website more visible, and that means more traffic and more opportunities to convert prospects into customers.

It's just an example, obviously he was quoting very long posts and blending aka hiding links nicely!

So, finally after preparing list of majority of his links, I got to the work.

I exactly started doing what he was doing, I would join forums, post replies, go back and edit posts to add my links. I couldn't replicate all his links because some forums caught onto what I was up to and deleted my posts and banned me. But I was able to replicate majority of his link profile.

Meanwhile, I was adding more content to my site and not doing any other links except from those forum links.

So finally, after few weeks of replicating my competitors back links, I OUTRANKED him and moved to #1, and I stayed there for almost 4 months and made about $36k in affiliate commissions.

It was a nasty niche, I was constantly getting NEG SEO from my competitors and finally they succeeded, after staying 4 months on #1, one day my site suddenly tanked hard and dropped to like 80-90 in serp.

This is my experience of making $36K by just doing some basic analysis of my competitor and reverse engineering.

Always keep a close eye on your competitor, you might find the reason why he is ranking and you're not.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer

Interesting.

Were all your competitors links only forum links?

well, dang! I never thought that forum links could rank in the weight loss niche. I guess we learn something new every day, huh! Although... I'd guess that the niche relevancy and the high PA / UR of those threads is what did the trick...

Still, great job on a job well done, I don't think I would have had your persistency and determination :p

Also, scary stuff if negative SEO works so well in such tough niches. Nothing's safe anymore...

Yes, That's why I thought initially that I would be able to outrank this guy easily.

Because, I thought his forum links won't stand a chance against my Niche Edit and PBN Links, but I was wrong. I literally tried everything possible but could not outrank him.

It was weeks of tedious work and trial & error to make this method work.

Initially I was putting my link in quotes right away, because I thought he was doing the same. But my posts were getting deleted and accounts keep on getting banned almost same day.

Then I did some further research and solved this puzzle, that this guy waits days before he puts his links in, not until the thread is on 4th or 5th page.

That's what I started doing, and my banned ratio decreased significantly.

But, in start I got banned so many times that I couldn't even count. lol

I am pretty sure that this was shared before. Imagine your website been manually checked and your backlink background is like that? It might be worth for you but you risk everything. I would rather build clean user profile at any forum and let it age so I can mention the link somehow. Why risk website for backlinks like that?

1. Did your links go to home page or inner page?

2. How long did you wait until you put your link in? 3 days?

3. Will you offer this as a service?

4. How does what you did differ from all the forum/crowdo link providers on this site?

5. What was link velocity?

OK - So, you want me to wait and watch my competitor beat my ass each day with black hat seo, and I just sit there with a smile on my face and say "Content is king" I will rank one day with white hat seo in a nasty and black hat niche like Weight Loss?

Well, good luck with that. White Hat Seo is not my cup of tea.

Nice trick mate.
Those hyperlinks not have that underline bar?
Is it possible to put same color of the forum background on that hyperlink text and to be invisible?

Hello,

1:- I posted in old threads which already had High PA/UR and had laser targeted niche relevancy to my site.

2:- I did not posted my link until the thread rolled down to 4th or 5th page. That could happen in 3 days or 10 days.

3:- NO, I have no plans to offer this as a service.

4:- I don't know what crowdo / forum providers are doing as I have not tested or seen their service, so I cannot comment on that.

5:- When everything was setup, I was able to replicate 4-5 links a day.

Purpose of this thread is not whether forum links work or not. Purpose of this thread was to demonstrate the importance of analysing your competitors and finding out reasons why they are outranking you.

Thanks!

Niche forums, Quora links always good for seo, but I hope others don’t rush to make links on every forum it should be completely relavant to one’s niche

This is pure gold, mate. This strategy can be replicated in every niche and with unlimited number of sites. The possibilities are just endless. Thanks for sharing this trick.

What’s the default phpbb forum length for locking post edits? I’ve seen some be within hours and other days. There must be a default timeframe to expect unless the admin changes it.

By default its 24 hours, I think but I am not 100% sure.

I didn't had to worry about that, because I was just replicating that guys links and he only posted on forums which had limit of several days to edit, that made my life lot easier.

I do not want to get too much into finer details of this method, as its very sneaky, black hat. I don't want newbies to use this and get their sites penalized, because its risky!
