Yet Another Ezoic Intergration Thread (YAEIT)

What I was afraid of happened: I just installed the Ezoic plugin and my score on Page Speed insights dropped from 92 to 32.

Here's the full story:
I have a small site monetized with AdSense for only 1 month, and as I expected, the earnings are quite low (around 15 USD / month).
Reading here on BHW I discover that the only alternative for a small site like mine (2500 clicks / month) is Ezoic.
Always reading here on BHW I understand that Ezoic generally involves:

• better earnings
• very slow site

For this reason, before implementing it, I tried to optimize my site as best as possible.
Having tested with page speed insights I had a mobile score of 34 (I had Litespeed cache pre-installed as a plugin for the cache).

To improve the situation I installed Perfmatters, and the score has improved a lot until it reaches about 90.

I was very happy with this result as this good speed occurred despite having AdSense turned on, so I thought Ezoic couldn't make the situation much worse.

signing up on Ezoic I chose the option to integrate it via plugin (and not via cloudflare). I did this because it seems to me that someone here on BHW recommended it.

The Ezoic plugin recognized LiteSpeed cache as incompatible and so I installed WP super cache (the only free alternative compatible with Ezoic apparently).

The performance of my site with WP super cache instead of Litespeed cache did not change, always around 90.

Once the Ezoic plugin was activated, however, the performance immediately dropped to around 30 (basically as before the installation of Perfmatters). The Ezoic ads are not yet active and the so-called "integration" by Ezoic has not yet taken place. In practice, google adsense ads are still on my site as normal.



Now I'm not sure what to do, wait and see how my site integration with Ezoic evolves or what.

Do you have any advice?
For example:

• Do you recommend integrating Ezoic as a plugin or via cloudflare?
• keeping Ezoic active for 1 month (with the consequent slowness) can cause damage to the ranking even in the long term, after perhaps removing Ezoic?
• should I install the Leap plugin from Ezoic? I've read very mixed reviews about it.

other notes:

• I'm using a shared hosting since I have very few views and earnings
• I'm from an european country and I think that the views cannot grow too much

how do you monetize then? Sadly i dont have the traffic for other AD networks

Disable all the cache plugins you have and enable Cloudflare integration for Ezoic. Then enable LEAP.

They will take care of the caching and CDN for you. Your speeds will go back to 90+

I have multiple sites on Ezoic and if you do it this way, you won’t have any issues with speed.

This won't happen always + speeds are not only based on loads, but how things are presented, specially with CSS which leads to worst results by far (given some aspects like FCP and CLS, which Ezoic cache don't provide by desfault)

You will have to tweak a lot your caching plugin to avoid any CDN and caching process.

I've seen other posts from you about Ezoic, and if I understood correctly, you abandoned it, right?
Given that I do not have other options, do you think that doing what @warriorsam53 and @terrycody proposed could be good for my situation?
Now that i think about about it, maybe it was you that here on BHW suggested to use Ezoic with plugin integration, do I recall correctly?

I integrated with nameservers. Speed took a massive hit so I tried leap which created a CLS issue which I could never resolve, so I ditched leap. My fix to regain speed was to upgrade hosting to ask fast as possible. I also used WProcket.

thank you for your advice. Are native ads profitable? I never see anyone discuss them here on BHW. Most people talk about them as advertisers, but not as publishers.

I may retry it on a while, but nowadays I'm doing fine with Adsense. I don't think that Ezoic provides a ton of extra value. Maybe is situational based on certain niches or something, never had the opportunity to find it.

What I would try is to cloak your site so that google doesn't get to see the ezoic ads or code at all and it only sees your site WITHOUT ads

That could help in rankings as well

I had a small site getting the same or similar amount of traffic and earnings with Adsense as yours, moved to Ezoic there wasn't w noticeable change in revenue but had same issue as you do.
I'd suggest you don't move at all, remain with Adsense till your traffic is big enough to move to a better platform that won't impact on your UX.

What I would try is to cloak your site so that google doesn't get to see the ezoic ads or code at all and it only sees your site WITHOUT ads

That could help in rankings as well

I had a small site getting the same or similar amount of traffic and earnings with Adsense as yours, moved to Ezoic there wasn't w noticeable change in revenue but had same issue as you do.
I'd suggest you don't move at all, remain with Adsense till your traffic is big enough to move to a better platform that won't impact on your UX.

I may consider using Adsense again, I will try with ezoic for few days and let you know how it goes.

I'm waiting for ezoic and Ad manager domain approval, do not know how much time this will take.

It's probably not worth the speed hit that will stunt your growth. With such small traffic, I advise you to wait a bit longer if you cannot afford to upgrade hosting.

Ezoic approved my account and domain but Ad manager disapproved the domain. I'm a little confused as why this happened... my domain is good enough for adsense but not for AdManager?
DO you have any advice?

If you go to the monetization tab and scroll to the section about Google MCM, they tell you the reason there. These days, there are a lot of site navigation and low value content issues with Google Ad Manager.

yeah they rejected me for low value content. With the help of ezoic team i made some changes (search bars on menu and sidebar) and reapplied. Denied again.
Now, always from suggestion from ezoic team, I will add 5 articles to a category that only has 3 articles in it. They think that maybe it could be that.
This is really not encouraging.
