Initially, all the text on the category pages were written at the rate of 1-2% is about one or two keywords per 100 words. There were some clicks, but based on the screenshot they were not stable.

I was recommended to do a keyword density analysis, namely:
1) Analyze the most relevant competitors for keyword occurrence density.
2) Analyzing competitors for LSI of occurrences.
3) Determining the average number of keywords of all competitors. In my case came out 3-4%, ie 3-4 keywords per 100 words.
After implementing the changes I have seen positive dynamics, I think it works.

I got a decent amount of traffic pretty quickly from blackhat links (this was 2015 when that still worked) which allowed me to spend 5+ years optimizing my sites until they started to generate big traffic.

Sounds pretty interesting

1) I mostly used affiliate programs in the weight loss niche.
2) Placement of the link must be really relevant, or disguised as "diet . help". Typically, administrators do not pay attention to such entries. It is also possible to ask people to go to Telegram or email and there to send him a link.
3) I answered existing questions that are already ranked (usually low-frequency keys) relating to weight loss help.

Cool! In fact, this approach still works, you just need to use better sites, unique near-link texts, as well as comply with the use of anchors in links. So that your site is not penalized by Google.

None of their advice works at all. They want to sell you ads. If your SEO is successful, they go broke. Simple as that.

Their webmaster console is designed to entertain amateur SEOs and keep them in the dark for as long as possible.

Forget it and do your own thing, you'll be more successful than going by their shit. If you obey them, you'll be buying ads.

I agree with the do your own thing part. But what about backlinks? How important are they now? I see lots of the bigger sites with thousands of backlinks of all kinds (even spammy ones) and it's as if they all just buy any and all links they can.

Links are the first and most important point, it is not even discussed. But in many niches you can get traffic without links, in highly competitive niches without them there is no way.
