Hi guys,

I really need your advice on what to do, here is the full story.

I met this guy on a Facebook group where I posted my site and he was interested in buying it.
We did a zoom call and he asked me all kinds of questions about the site and at the end, he decided to buy it, we agreed to use escrow.

2 days after he said he wasn't able to deposit funds in escrow due to some technical issues with his bank so he asked if there was an alternative we should use.

I suggested him to pay through Payoneer and he agreed.

I proposed the following procedure:

I give him access to the Namecheap account where the site is hosted is and he pays half the money, after that, I push the domain name onto his registrar account and he pays the rest and he was very happy with it.

We agreed on doing all that while on chat on Facebook. Everything was supposed to be done and completed during that chat session.

I went on and did as per our agreement, he got the hosting account, and after verifying everything was working fine, he paid half the price.
After receiving a notification from payoneer, I went on and pushed the domain to his account, asked him to accept it and he did it.

From that moment he disappeared.

Now it's been 2 days, I wrote him 3 messages and he never replied, I can still see he has been online but he says nothing.

What do you guys think I should do now ?

You were fooled by him. If you are able to report him to police, do that.

Did you record everything?
The chat is still there in facebook, maybe I can take screen shots.

I know what I did was very stupid, after I talked to him on Zoom I kinda trusted him. Reporting him to police, we live on different continents so that won't be possible.

Download OBS and record it all.

Now, the tricky part is, will the Namecheap react and if it decides to react, how will it react...

My advice to you is to go to their live chat immediately, explain everything that happened, show them a video so you don't need to send 10 or 20 pictures, and see what can be done.

I've never thought about this so I don't know how Namecheap will react.

First red flag. What technical issues?!

Big mistake. Never push the domain name before receive the payment.

Get in touch with the domain name provider and ask if they cancel the transfer process (almost impossible, once he got the auth code, but..). Get in touch with the fb group admins, to ban the little shit.

Thank you, I'll be reporting him in the facebook group.

OBS - https://obsproject.com/download [video recording]

Anyway, let us know how it all went.

NC live chat has always provided good support, I hope they will do the right thing in this case as well.

I wish you all the best and once again, let us know how it all went.

So sorry to hear you got scammed. There is nothing you can actually do as he is not from your country and i'm 99.9% sure Namecheap cannot help you, so consider this a payment for a course on how to not be scammed online.

Thank you very much, this is what I was looking for even if it won't help that much in this situation I put myself in.
I'll be updating this thread with everything that will happen.

Grab screenshots as evidence, but he's probably long gone.

A course I won't recommend to anyone,Thanks.

I'm recording a video of all screenshots, I know he's offering some services on upwork but I don't know his username over there.

Sorry to hear this... You should have transferred the domain after you received full amount.

As you said this happened on Facebook, I recommend one thing... I know this is not ethical, but its upto you to decide.

Before he blocks you on facebook, go find his friends list, and send message to as many of his friends as possible explaining what he has done to you.

I am sure he will respond back to you.

Your hosting or your domain registrar may not help you as you have initiated the process.

I hope you will get back your money soon.

Contact namecheap, i assume he transferred out to another namecheap account so the support may help you.

If its gone to some 3rd part provider, there is very less chance of you getting any support.

And for payoneer my recommendation withdraw the money you received, no one know when he will raise a dispute to get that money too.

I appreciate your words but the guy has no friends on facebook, very strange.

Hopefully you have a written record of everything that happened. It might be tough to hold his feet to the fire still.

I've some screenshots, but there's nothing they can help with for now.

I would spam his domain as hard as I can to tank it off of google rankings :D
