Tips for streaming on Spotify to receive your Royalties

Three rookie mistakes to avoid:

1) Getting into the top charts.

(Depending on the country you stream from, there's a limit to how many streams you can get per day per track, if you get into the top charts, it's a safe bet that you'll get deleted)
It sounds stupid, but it's very easy to get into the Spotify TOP 200, especially if you live in a small country)

2) Have too few artists.

(Deliver several artists, in case some of them get deleted you won't lose everything)

3) Distribute with Distrokid

There was a time, when Distrokid paid the artists playing with the system, even if it was transfers of 5,6,7k$ automatically.
As long as you didn't get caught by Spotify you were sure to get paid. This change the last year.
They decided to keep the money for themselves, even though they had no hard evidence, a profile that was just a little suspicious was reason enough.

I know it's tempting to deal with them, since they are the cheapest, but you can be pretty sure, that if you want to make big money you will get nothing.

Tunecore or Cd Baby
If you don't plan to make a lot of streams and money in the beginning
(Fast payment)
(Easy distribution)
(Simple track acceptance rate)

Recordjet
If you don't have any problem to put your real ID card and you are not afraid to wait 4 months to see the result of your streams
(Payment 1 month after other distributors so slow)
(Easy distribution)
(Random track acceptance rate)

Landr or Spinnup
If you have the copyright of the music you want to distribute
(Fast payment)
(Easy distribution)
(Low track acceptance rate)

In any case, you must avoid to be deleted by spotify. If this is the case in 70% of the chances you will receive nothing

1. Would a producer releasing instrumentals (possibly a collection of 10 at a time as an album) getting passable streams work to receive payouts? Would you still recommend staying out of the top 200, or even less streams per day/week?
2. As someone who actually plans to do music as a living would you recommend streaming such as this?

How many times have you received payments from tunecore?

I don't work with Tunecore any more, but at the time they used to make payments just for small amounts, when you went over a certain amount they would steal the money. That was about a year ago, I haven't been back to them since.

If you enter the top charts of your country with artificial streams you can be almost sure, that your track will be deleted and there is a possibility that you won't get paid, (this is very likely since last October)

You should know that only 3% of artists on Spotify generate more than $1,000 a year. When I see young entrepreneurs making 10, 20 times that amount on a single artist, I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying it's stupid to believe that this is a good long-term strategy.
