Full ID Verification Process for Marketplace Sellers

This thread in a nutshell:

- Forging of ID
- Privacy issues
- Argument
- those who agree / disagree

@BassTrackerBoats I forgot to say that I like the escrow idea. I know that you already know everything I said here:

Not everyone is going to accept the id verification process. The reasons are: they want to stay anonymous, they can not trust you and give you their ids, and many more reasons. Are you asking why? Well, we are simply selling/buying the things that you only find in a black market. As not a seller from bhw, I do not think it is a good idea.

Anyway, with or without id, I will be here.
but it was my opinion, and I am sure you will do the best for the forum.

None of those are the equivalent of a government issued ID. I shouldn’t have to elaborate on this.

That's fair. That is substantially more important.

But also, there's a part of me that thinks if you're going to be a vendor accepting thousands of transactions on a third-party site, the third-party you're selling on should know who you are. Because it improves the legitimacy of the third-party.

And I suppose the counter to that would be: "Well then you're potentially worsening the quality of the third-party by removing sellers that benefit from the anonymity of the third-party".

lets also put id verification on buyers and see how that goes. i mean after all there are lots of scammers on the buyers side too who pay with stolen credit cards etc
and everyone has to use their real pic as avatar (biometric) and private phone number on their profile.
also a copy of your birth certificate needs to be on your profile, fingerprint scan and your mothers maiden name...
oh and for every purchase there has to be a written contract signed with the blood of the seller, buyer and at least one mod.

We already covered this a few pages ago.

If this wasn't a black hat forum, that wouldn't be a bad idea, but it is.

That is why I included my next sentence that you decided to leave out. o_O

Maybe a good question is:

How can we balance legitimacy and also anonymity for the marketplace?

Maybe not a government ID, but perhaps there are similar measures to ensure legitimacy? Just a thought.

We can't, it is virtually impossible.

Scammers are going to scam, no matter what obstacles you put in front of them, they will eventually find a way, as many people have pointed out.

A restriction like this would give people a false sense of safety that could lead to even more scams if you think about it, which would be counterproductive.

We cannot stop scammers, however, if an escrow system gets implemented, that would give the buyer more tools to defend themselves against them.
In the end, we as consumers are responsible for what and who we decide to buy from.

Ok, your post was funny and I'm sure you meant to be a tad sarcastic.

You and I have butted heads a few times over the years but I'm with you as to security (and in a lot of areas as well I am sure).

There is in place a process to begin making sure the sellers and buyers will be protected to a certain level and that is in the works as legit sellers like you, and thousands of others, deserve to make sure that what you are selling is copasetic as well as the buyer.

at least i could make you laugh :D
my work is done here.
but yea on a serious note, sounds good i'm sure you guys can come up with a proper system like always.
i think there is no need for an orwellian anti privacy system and i'm sure there will be a solution that works for everyone instead of having to submit gov ids.

Interesting thread and some great and thoughtful comments. Let’s not forget we’re NOT dealing in absolutes here. To clarify some points:
If you don’t care about credentials then we’ll have an option for you. Conversely if you only want to buy from someone who’s ID has been verified by a thirdparty source (we’re not in the personal data business we’ll be using secure verified third-party data) then you’ll be able to filter to find such a seller.

We’d not expect buyers to be verified - however if a seller made that a requirement and didn’t want to sell to anyone that wasn’t verified then we could consider options here, providing both parties agreed to their personal credentials being verified. However we’d definitely not make it mandatory to BUY on the platform. The seller can, as in any case chose who they want to do business with. We’re providing verified data and choice for buyers and sellers alike.

The new marketplace will be about making choices available to buyers and sellers alike. It will grow and develop over time based on feedback like this we receive.

In short our direction = choice.

Nothing is secure not even the Multi-Billion Dollar companies so this point makes no sense.

you will weed out a chunk of people which will be a bad move for your forum,Good luck but I can see where this is going:)

Most important thing is bhw to be an escrow , basically to be in the middle between the buyer and the seller. I hope this can happen , I think it may stop the Paypal limitation for all the sellers, since sellers won't be receiving money directly from the buyers. That will stop chargeback scammers and it will be a good thing .

Good suggestion, i'm all in for such stuff. But like others said, this will most likely be bypassed as soon as its integrated.

Something this forum need is an escrow system. Last month we saw (probably) the biggest scam in BHW history, i'm sure if we had escrow a couple of thousands could be saved (at least): https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/wengthemeng-scam-us-ytstartup.1358425/

Its time for BHW to make a step and finally integrate it, majority of forums that are similar to BHW have escrow for years now.

Let's see what we will get in Marketplace 2.0, i'm excited :D
