Hello,
I have a Youtube channel with almost 40k subscribers, last activity on my channel was 3 years ago when I uploaded game apps reviews. Now I want to start uploading another niche to this channel and rebrand it. Delete all old videos from the channel and upload the new ones. What do you recommend guys? Create a new channel or upload to this? I heard several opinions, ones say that this channel is good because I have collected subs already and I need only watch time for monetization, and another says that is better to create a new channel because dead subscribers can hurt the algorithm. Any recommendations from experience?
i will tell you from experience and observation, a few things to note:
it is true that many fresh channels do well by uploading good content.
they have a chance to blow quick.
yt sort of gives some candy to fresh channels.
however consider the following:
1. subs dont matter on yt anymore. its based on individual video performance.
2. your old channel can be dead, thats fine(its not a problem).
i've seen several dead channel cases.
like dead channels that were bought by some yt farmers, and revived with trend content.
sometimes russians buy big dead/inactive authority channels and upload or stream trending kids content on them and revive it.(seen many cases)
3. although subs dont matter anymore on yt, there are still a few things to note.
channel ranking authority is based on several factors:
channel p score
email score/trust score
channel size(subs)
total channel watchtime and views
algorithm suggestion rates, suggestion spikes and drops, daily views/monthly views thresholds. etc,
are all dependent on the channel size/authority factors (as stated above).
NOTE: there are exceptions to this case, where with incredibly viral or trendy content, suggestion rates can always bypass/exceed the channel authority factors.
but for the general spammy or average youtubers with average/passive content that "works", these suggestion rate principles apply.
they will get their daily/monthly views threshold based on these factors, although botting it up to high levels is another way to bypass these thresholds based on my tests.
4. now you can have a totally dead channel and give up on it.
but dont.
dont delete any old videos. just private them and preserve your channel's ranking authority.
now re-grind with fresh content that you plan to change to.
like i said, ive already tested.
your subs dont matter and your subs being in a different niche does not matter, because many people assume , that your channel is permanently doomed or tied to that niche and those subs but that's false.
this effect is temporary, you can overcome it.
private your old niche videos and disconnect them from the algorithm and now start regrinding with fresh content(the niche that you changed to).
it might take a few months, but trust me you will see resutls.
i advised to private old videos, because you dont want to give the algorithm a chance to suggest your old videos, but instead you want to force suggestions on the new content you are grinding on.
making the videos private, does just this. it totally disconnects those old videos from the algorithm.
when you do the above that i said, you get to keep your channels ranking authority, suggestion rates etc
which will usually be higher than a fresh channel.
since your channel has already gained a trust score and has built the video algorithm due to your grinding history, your fresh video uploads will always have a better chance to go viral.
whether it is views from subs to give it a kickstart, or the algo giving you initial browse and suggested impressions to test your video performance.
on a fresh channel it would take long before this even starts to happen.
i have seen cases of dead 1M+ subs channels due to inactivtiy or the usual channel death.
these channels were bought by some new guys and they did some kids content on that.
it went from dead 10k views per day, to around 2M to 3M views per day.
but they grinded for a bit before it took off again.
======================================================
conclusion:
keep grinding.
dont throw this channel.
but alongside this, also do similar content on fresh channel.
if the fresh channel blows too, then you will double your income.
