What do you think about profile links?
Does it still working?

If you are expecting a rank increase from them though, I don't think that's happening.

I just want to see if I need to spend part of my budget on them. I understand that the SEO effect from them will not. Some people say it's kind of like an airbag. But what is it?

They are probably referring to foundation links I mentioned or "pillow" ones used for diversity of sources and anchors.

If you have a good presence on a forum, and you have a good description of your website link, then it's a great idea.
On the flip side, if you have 100 forum links in a week, with no description, then that's a waste of time, ranking & money.

Also consider how much traffic you might direct to your site via this portal, with a few posts a week.
Nothing to do with SEO, but as far as I know, people still like to click on links and follow tings.

I was under the impression that @SarkarSEO profile on here, help ranked his website.

I think that worth to keep them if you already have. They can bring at least some direct hits from time to time.
